I also agree, everything right now is being delayed. So give that response time some leeway.

As far as not reporting it.........it's only $4K to them, so their body shop doesn't have to report an internal job. But that part is up to you, how much does it bother you? And it would up to you to be honest and tell whoever you sell it to down the road.

As far as asking for additional incentives......again up to you, never hurts to ask. But it will depend on what you think you're owed and how far you push. But I definitely wouldn't fly off the hook until you get your truck back. Take the restaurant approach. You aren't going to bitch and make a scene before you actually get your food. No telling what they will do to it in the back.

As much as I love arguing with strangers on the internet for no personal gain, it's clear you're making assumptions and arguing from there, or are used to dealing with scabby insurance. Peace.

If it gets reported to Carfax, and if a future buyer pays to pull the Carfax, and if they try to beat your price down because of it, just show them this thread and they will see that it was just a little cosmetic fender bender that got taken care of and not some major accident that affects the truck mechanically or structurally. You aren’t required to appease some hypothetical buyer’s attempt to haggle you down over this. It’s a Tacoma and people overpay every day even for salvage titles on these trucks. If you stick to your guns and treat it like the insignificant minor repair that it is, this little thing isn’t going to stop you from getting full market value for your truck someday unless you decide to let yourself get walked over.

Doesn't teh carfax depend on the dealership using their insurance to cover the cost of the repair or not? i.e. if they use their insurance, it'll likely get reported to the data centesr that carfax pulls from? $3800 in parts and labor seems like the "customer" cost, not actually the cost to the dealership. They probably balked at your question about keepign it off the carfax because they might use insurance to recoup their cost for their mistake. But that's all reading through the lines 2nd hand. Good luck.

Same thing happen to me years ago at a subaru dealer. You got them by the balls. Tell them your going to report to your ins. They don't want to report to their ins. They just want to fix and done. I ended up getting the best deal i ever got buying a new car. Mine had the same kind of damage.

Please explain to me where in your policy it states that your insurance company is there to help you with something that they have no exposure to? Don't buy into the hype of "Nationwide is on your side". They really aren't. You do realize that they are a for profit business. Paying for your repairs and with hope that they can get their money back from their competition doesn't really make good business sense. Maybe the General works that way?

If you have collision insurance it's in there. It's also not that uncommon to have your insurance cover repairing your car even if you're not at fault. You can choose to do that to get it done as quickly as possible (rental coverage, etc.). You'll have to pay your deductible but you should get that back once it's determined you weren't at fault and the other company pays your insurer back. Or you can pick to wait for the other company to pay. But it's pretty normal as your insurance wants to keep you happy and they have a really high chance of getting the money back.

That's also exactly how underinsured/uninsured coverage works. Only there chances of collecting are lower since its from a person and not another insurer.

Do I Pay My Deductible If I’m Not At Fault?
The short answer? Maybe. You can choose to wait until the at-fault driver’s insurance company connects with you and pays for your damages, but that method is rarely swift. Your other option, if you want to get the process rolling so you’re back on the road quicker, is to file a claim with your insurance company, pay your deductible and have them cover the remaining costs for damages.

Just give the dealer some time. They'll make it right. If you're really unhappy with the work at the end of the deal let the dealer know or notify your insurance.

Sue everyone. Start with the dealer, then the service manager, service writer, the tech, the person driving, and the cashier.

Oops, not Friday yet. Sorry. I would squeeze them to trade in for a new model even with what you have now. No out of pockets

Sorry about your truck. I learned the hard way to ALWAYS take pics of my truck, when I drop it off for service. Many years ago, I dropped a truck off for an oil change. About a week later, I found a dent in the rear. I’m 95% sure, it happened while the dealer had the truck.

Now, I take pics of the truck, from all sides, in the dealers lot, when I drop it off. Upon pick up, I examine the truck and delete the pics, after finding no damage.

I'll be honest, only read the first and the 9th page. Page 9 starts off... fun.

$0.02, even if the shop takes the truck, doesn't report the damage, doesn't touch your insurance, gives you a loaner, and makes that bed perfect, they still have not made it Right. That's just getting the truck back to where it was and doesn't compensate your for your time and inconvenience. For that, they should come off some parts. TRD exhaust, skid plates, head lights, that kind of thing. Whatever is double what you think is fair for your time and effort, ask for that and maybe a bit more.

Damn lucky the idiot missed the back of the cab and the axle though.

I’m sorry. I should have done a preemptive “jk” of sorts. I was just being a doofus.

The dealership does not wan to see it go on a
carfax report. If it was their employee it will quietly go away. If it was a customer that will be a different story. Then all the doomsday discussion could be in play. Otherwise you should be good. Keep us posted it could be a learning experience for everyone.
