Well then... Prepare for a BJ on the front side of the deal and an AF on the backside of it...

    LS1 swap with nitros.
They aren’t going to buy your truck and sell another one for a loss. You will lose several thousand on the deal plus paying TTL all over again.
    It’s a trap.

I can see that as a likelihood from the outset of the situation. Was mostly curious if others were hearing the same thing from a dealer which it looks like they definitely are.

It's a common tactic. If they can get you in the door the chance of selling you a brand new vehicle is obviously much higher. I bought a Tucson in 2016 and every 6 months or so the dealer would call saying that customers are looking for that model and year. You're best to tell them about the vehicle over the phone and ask for an offer that way.

(The Tucson still runs great but the door latches have broken so maybe I should have traded it in.)

I think I have gotten this call from every dealer I have ever bought a car from. They are just trying to drum up traffic through the door.

Agreed. I was still getting those calls on my 2006 Xterra with 305,000 miles (they obviously did not even go so far as to check the mileage while it was in the service dept). Eventually Carvana offered me $100 (that’s right, one hundred) and I sold it to a private party for $3,000.

For sure. Actually I think their computers were smoking after they got the stats on my inquiry.

Maybe I am in the minority here but I would ask them to put their best deal on the table and see what happens -- that is, if you have the time and the patience for the typical car dealer games. Most recently, the local BMW dealer here did the same thing to me and I told them put your best deal on paper and send it to me. If you give me a deal too good to refuse, I may take you up on your offer. They did -- but I was not impressed so I passed. However, once before I did the same thing with a dealer in a neighboring state and the deal they put on the table was so ridiculously good that I went for it.

Yes, this is a sales traffic tactic. But if the numbers are good and it works in your favor, then it may be worth it. Doesn't cost anything to ask them to put their numbers where their mouth happens to be. Unless you have no interest in selling at all ... then I say just ignore it. They key here is that you are in the driver's seat.

I haven't gotten a call from a dealer, but I have gotten emails and letters in the mail saying something similar. I delete the emails and shred the letters. I'm not interested in getting rid of my truck my 2018 has things which I personally like that the 2021 don't have anymore.

this approach makes the most sense to me. I get that odds aren’t on my side, but it’s worth seeing what they decide to offer.
    Thanks for your input

Yeah, like you said it doesn't hurt to see what they say if that's something you want to do. If you don't like what they offer you just leave and keep your truck.

I get the every-two-weeks mailer with all my truck numbers in it and an offer that I work out to about $4k less than I paid about 3.5 years and 45k miles ago. <$100 bucks a month for a truck? Not bad at all until I figure out that its replacement will be $41k after a hard negotiation down from $43k. Then I’m on the hook again.

I bought the taco for the long haul. If I keep swapping up, then I bought into something I don’t get the value out of.

Six more payments and it’s pink slip time! That’s what I bought into. Paid off and another 10-15 years of reliable life.

It’s a scam. It’s an old trick, they cold call old customers and tell them “there is high demand for your model” or “we have a customer looking for a used Tacoma” and try to get you to trade in for a new vehicle. Sales tactic.

I don't think anyone has said that there is no harm in trying, just have proper expectations. I saw you were asked to visit carmax, or hit up carvana before going, that's great advice.

You should go to carvana's site right now and see what the offer you. I got offered 29.5 for my truck a week ago or so. You should get more than that unless your truck has more than 60k miles on it.

i went to my dealer today, maui toyota, to get a couple oil filters, there were no trucks or cars on the lot or in the showroom.
i asked the parts guy if they were going out of business, he said no, they sold everything and can't get new ones. he said the new ones inbound are already sold.

I got the call as well and a couple of flyers in the mail from the dealership where I bought my Taco 13 months ago, only in my case they really have no idea what shape or how many miles my Taco has since it's not been back there (or to any dealer) since I bought it. One of the Flyers they sent me estimated my mileage to be 14K (it was less than 8K at the time).

In my case I'd only be interested in trading for a 4Runner and from what I'm seeing the value on those is going through the roof right now as well so I think I'll be keeping my Taco.
