Get a AAA Death Valley map. It has lots of info about the area. There are many books about it too. Suggest you do the Titus Canyon run, good graded road, one way from NV. side near Beatty, beautiful. Old mining town (Rhyolite) near entrance point worth seeing. Everyone should visit Death Valley Scotty's place. Free to roam around but cost to do house tour, $10 or 12 I think. The hotel at Furnace Creek is $200+ a night and the Inn on the east side just south is even more. Hotels in Beatty in the $50 range. Make sure you have water and an extra 5 gallons of gas can come in handy. Gas at Furnace Creek was $4.96 a gallon over newyears where as Beatty it was $3.29.

It was $5.10 on the 4th! Not that $0.14 is that big of a deal. Also, I'm sure they have gas by now, but the station in Trona(?) was out at the time, so we had to back track to Ridgecrest to fill up before going to Ballaratt.

Trona was still out of gas over New Years. The guy at the Ballarat store said it was because the station wrote the gas supplier bad checks.

If I'm in the park I get gas at Stovepipe Wells. It is a little cheaper than Furnace Creek.

Lots of that going on with small remote gas stations nowadays... Times are hard out there!

I've used this place a year ago. Baja Pits recommended them. They are in downtown San Diego.

I have talked to but not used this one. I think they are in the northwest, Seattle?

Hey guys, my girlfriend and i spent a few days out in death valley last weekend. here are some pics of the adventure. They're not the best but they serve their purpose.

and we stayed at stovepipe wells campground. gas there was 4.40/gallon. i think furnace creek was at 5.05/gallon. We also had great weather. Highs in the mid 70s and lows around 40. :)

Took the trail to Huntermountain, which leads us through a long and lonely backroad all the way until we hit the 190.

Im sure most of you have seen those calendar photos or postcards with something similar to this... this dry lakebed is called the racetrack. it has rocks that mysteriously move. you can kinda see the trail in the pic
    [IMG]

Hunter mountain was cold and there was ice along the road.

Thanks guys! It was a lot of fun. I was shocked at how little we actually explored. The DV is such a large area. Def a big playground if you have the right gear.

Slim chance for me. Got a baby set to arrive in October. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll have a family expo in early 2013 or later that year?
