So, after buying and driving my 2000 4Runner 4x4 SR5 I've come to greatly dislike the 750 transmission in my Taco... I find myself super enjoying the way the 4runner drives and then it feels "meh" when I drive the taco. That A340F is so nice with new fluid, Jesus. I love it. Wow!

Honestly, I get connected to my rides and it feels like I'm having an affair with the 4runner!! It does make me sad actually, laugh if you want but that's me.

Would it worth it to perhaps refresh the taco's transmission? Is this even a thing? Solonoids or...? I flushed it over a year ago and it's probably time again but I don't think that will do anything to the logic of the 750. It's just so unresponsive compared to the 4Runner's A340F. Sloppy I guess?

I don't think anything is wrong with it, it just is meh. Sloppy, shifts up way too fast and then has to shift back down. I'm NOT looking for race performance, I just want it to be firm and responsive.
Is that normal or the result of 221k miles?

I see like...shift kits and solonoid kits... Is any of this worth it, it would these actually remove the slop?

That is true, but I need to know if there is a way to improve it and what it may cost before I choose...haha.

If it was me, before i did anything, i would reset the battery for more than 5minutes. Then get in the truck and drive it like you stole it (or drive it however you arent right now). Maybe give the trans some time to relearn a different driving style and see if that helps with any of your complaints. Seems like a good free starting point imo!

I saw an old post about the IPT, is this like a "race valve" or just a slightly better one?

A tune, I didn't know you could tune the tranny! How much are those and the IPT?

I did that a few months ago, took 2 days for the truck to idle and run without dying after I cleaned the MAF lol.

Thats not normal.. it should only die once after you start it up for the first time..

Well now that I think of it the dying did stop the first day, but it ran oddly for 2 days or so. Then she went back to normal.

Thats good news. It does take a bit of driving for the ecu to relearn all the fuel trims

For me it also takes about a hundred miles before the AC will blow cold again after a battery reset.

Very interesting you mention this. Mine does the same. I always thought it was my UCon, but that makes sense. Any idea why the ac wont blow before it learns the fueling??

No, HVAC systems are not my forte. I have no clue. And I have no Ucon. All stock motor/ECU

Strange, I really like this transmission and usually hate autos. I have changed my fluid 4 times in the last 15k miles, thus doing a full flush in the process, and I have a giant cooler.

If you want it to be firm and responsive, that's what a valve body upgrade does:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ratiotek-transmission-upgrade-how-to.528378/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/ipt-valve-body-finally-installed.318077/

However, at that mileage, it's most likely pretty worn. Try flushing it, and go from there. If you're handy try the ratiotek. If you have money, buy a performance transmission or have the valve body done.
