Dropped off the Taco at the body shop this morning to restore decals, pinstripes, and some paintless dent removal. Getting closer on the exterior restoration project.

Here's a before and after pic.

Before picture. Notice the dent behind the rear wheel and in front of the bumper.

    SUS_04a_After_Bilstein_f516f499bec2bc2f0d5ec47dec15b6a4c8acff21.jpg

After - Pinstripe and TRD Decal -- The dent behind the rear wheel has been removed.

TRD Decal on the passenger side. There was a dent behind the rear wheel like the one on the driver side.

Just a close up of the pinstripe. The new pinstripe covered a difference in paint fade left behind by the original pinstripe.

Crazy that little thin stripe could make a world of difference in hiding that new paint or not. Looking good hermano

    Thank you. @cruiserguy

On the TRD decals, I am glad that I purchased two different sets. I had originally purchased the red outline set as an OEM looking replacement from an eBay seller. Those decals came with some markings on the backing paper that indicate Oracal. Later I would find that backing paper type makes a difference.

Later I saw some all black TRD decals on Amazon and decided to go with those instead. So I just kept the TRD red outline decals in the parts box for some future purpose. I'm glad I kept them around.

Late in the afternoon, I got a panicked call from the body shop telling me the decals could not be mounted. The body shop owner said the decals look like the ones you get from Amazon. Yep. Sure enough.

I told him that I have another set of decals that are like the authentic TRD decals and that I would be there in 10 minutes with the replacement decals. Note that I didn't say the decals were from eBay. The eBay decals turned out to use a higher quality Orcal backing. The backing separated without issue and the decals were correctly installed.

Here's a link to the black outlined decals that I bought on Amazon. These decals were unusable. The lettering could not be separated from the backing.

Link to Amazon decals that wouldn't work.

did you first check with McGeorge about getting OEM decals, do they still exist in some warehouse shelf?

They exist. $34.69 with red backing like the ones I got on eBay for $11.25. I think the eBay ones may have been surplus stock. The body shop owner said the backing looked like real Toyota decals.

    Good looking truck!

Pinstripes are normally the first thing I remove when I get a vehicle but if they've been on forever the fading can be tough to deal with.

Is it me or does your bed look like its sitting a bit high? The body lines from the cab don't seem to line up with the ones on the bed in your first picture. Look at where the cab meets the bed.

It does look a shade high. No evidence of an accident by the previous owner. I wonder if somebody pulled the bed to replace a fuel pump and it came out a touch different or something.

If there hadn't been the fading, I would not have had had it restriped. So I got the new stripe to cover the exact location for the old.

you did not pull the bed to clean and paint your frame all shiny as seen in another recent posting?

Nope. Not yet anyway. I did the front 1/3 while I had the engine out.

This afternoon I installed some new bed rails. One more thing is now done for the trim job.

Nice truck. If your box looks high compared to the cab check the cab mounts to the frame. Mine caved into the cab and it appeared as yours does but mine was worse. Not sure if you have a body lift but my body lift pucks were too narrow and the small surface area punched right in while i had a heavy buddy riding in the back corner mudding :/

No body lift. Need to check out the cab to frame bushings.

I almost don't want to look at the cab to frame bushings. I have a predisposition to insert aluminum spacers or Delrin to fill in any gaps to get things as tight as possible. I'm not ready for that phase yet.. LOL
