I have a 2002 4x4 Tacoma with ABS, and I took it in to a shop for an intermittent ABS light and a strong pedal vibration when turning at low speeds. They said that it's the deceleration sensor, and quoted me nearly $1450 for the part, plus labor for a total of over $2k. What are the chances that it is the deceleration sensor, and should I have them replace it or get the part from a junked truck and do it myself?

Did they say what ABS code it was throwing?

I've never even heard of a deceleration sensor.

That's certainly an accelerometer of some sort, but it's the brains of the airbags not the ABS. The yellow loom is a federal requirement denoting airbag function

I just heard back from him, he said it's code 44 and that he's tested the sensor and it's bad. I guess I'll just have to replace it and hope for the best.

Bringing up an old thread. I also have an 02 Limited TRD Prerunner. I’m getting a code 32 and 44. Has anyone else had to replace their deceleration sensor?

I haven't replaced mine yet, but I get a code 44 for the deceleration sensor after driving for 15 minutes or so and have been hunting for a replacement sensor in a partout for a few months now. I don't want to pay the $950 a new one costs from the dealer and there aren't any aftermarket options.
