I've heard some great things about the deckplate mod. I really wanna try it but the thing is I dont wanna hack up a perfectly good airbox if I am not going to get anything out of it. I just want some feedback from people that have installed one and know what it is capable of.
    Thanks,
    AJ

    do it.
its worth it over an aftermarket intake. A lot cheaper, and will do the same thing.
Just take your time and theres not much to screw up.

    ...too much shit to list.
And if you don't like it, you just keep the plate installed and it functions like a factory airbox.

^^^ this. total mod costs ~$15-20 and an hour of your time. asking if an after market cold air intake is worth it is an actual question. if you don't like this, spin the cap on and it's completely returned to normal!

one thing i did on my deck plate mod is put a piece of large-hole metal mesh behind the plate opening (held in by the screws) so that no *large* debris or animals could get in there and make a nest/screw anything up.

Chris4x4, lord of TacomaWorld, says he's had it dyno'd and the results are real. Just do it, you'll be glad you did.

You can also get them at bass pro, cabelas, and other stores like these.

I have the deck plate mod and I did notice a slight gain. For what it costs, it is definitely worth IMO.

I did it on my 2wd 2.4 and it definitely gives a bit more pedal. And a little sound too. :)
I put stainless screen on the back with a hose clamp. Easy mod and I can cap it in the winter to keep all the salt out.

Some questions (probably answered in the other 4,000 deck plate mod threads)

    1. Assuming I don't do the "right foot" mod once this is done, is there any loss or gain in mpg?

    2. In that thread above he removed the EFI sensor and he said the computer is still trying to recalibrate. Did everyone else have this experience? I have a 5MT, will this affect me like it did that guy and his 4runner?
