For the most, yes I do. I don't do much driving in the cold weather, just short trips and it drops to about 17, but about half my warm weather driving is half freeway and I get between 19 - 21 on average. Had truck since new and have 130,000 on indefinitely doesn't owe me anything! I just use the cheapest gas I can find.

2nding. From a salt state, I sadly pulled a nice fresh one from AZ only to be subjected to the North East. Though I make sure she's fully oil undercoated regularly.

EDIT: Also, yeah run like everyone said. That's shot with attempted cover up.

JAM....is there a product to look for specifically for the acid treatment

Bought a 2011 i want to address rust before it destroys frame. Saw a YouTube video where I guy mixed up some home depot deck wash to make a naval jelly like product but would prefer to buy off the shelf product if available

I have used OSPHO with good results, I bought it at a marine supply store but you can find it a lot of places

Check out this sticky about DIY frame resto. Looks like any phosphoric acid would help etch the frame but be aware that your frame will almost immediately start flash rusting on all the exposed metal. Be prepared to cover it with something like POR-15 that day. Meaning this isn't something you can do on a Saturday, then finish on Sunday.

Appreciate that input on the flash rust. I kind of anticipated that.

My thought is..doing it in small segments. Milwaukee grinder with wire brush after work Friday, "clean" light scale off whatever i van get within say an hour. Saturday apply the acid in even smaller segments, and applying the FIRST coat of paint as the acid dries. Granted it means a lot of leap frigging back and forth between acid and paint but it minimizes the flash rust. Following the completion of one full pass with the wire brush/acid/first coat of paint, the base coat of paint could be "wet wiped" with a damp cloth or soft nylon bristle brush just to get dirt off another weekend to allow the final top coat of paint. Followed by NHOU.....may seem like overkill but....I really like this truck haha

The second step for applying POR-15 (after cleaning/degreasing) is as follows:

Use POR-15® Metal Prep on the surface to remove rust or prepare it for POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating. Metal Prep neutralizes rust, etches metal, and coats it with zinc phosphate for better adhesion. This process is key to how POR-15 works in stopping and preventing rust.

The third recommended step is to apply two thin coats of POR-15, and later a top coat.
Notice that the second step can be followed even if you use another method for removing the rust (such as the acid you are planning to use), as the Metal Prep also improves the adhesion.

FWIW, I don't have any business interest in POR-15, but have been using it for more than 30 years. If used properly, it is exceptional at taming rust in most circumstances.

Thanks for the insight!! Much appreciated. Was actually thinking about any etching primer on ride home tonight about an hour ago so you've got great timing!
    Thanks again
