Depo tail light problem

Mine have been fine for a year, but y'all have me worried now...bastards. Mine had base halogen taillights.

 

This is all interesting, I too ordered the Depo blacked out lights for my 2014. I fully expected a simply plug and done experience. When I plugged them in, they simply DID NOT work? .. tried several times and switched sides.. still nothing .. I hope to get a full refund and have seller pay shipping return..

That really sucks man....for some reason I took mine off and put them back on and they seem to be working fine again

 

Geez seems like we all faced same issue. I just installed them on saturday and immediately noticed driver side brakes wouldnt come on. All other lights and pass side worked fine. I popped the light out again, reconnected the harness and its been fine since saturday

Overall I am impressed with their appearance and quality. Depo should address the wiring issue tho

 

It's beyond me how something works, then doesn't work, then works again lol....

And what's really funny, is before I bought them I did a search and didn't find any issues with them lol

I think the problem with the brake lights not working sometimes is caused by a poor connection. LEDs draw very little current compared to incandescent bulbs. As a result, a connection that is slightly loose or oxidized may have a high enough resistance to prevent the LEDs from lighting.

Oxidized or loose connections affect incandescent bulbs as well but they have an advantage over LEDs. If the connection is loose and then suddenly connects, the bulbs draw enough current to cause a slight arc that will often cause the connection to "weld" itself together slightly and make for a better circuit.

The solution is to gently clean the electrical contacts in the connections between the harness and the tail light assembly then apply some dielectric bulb grease (available at any auto parts store) to the connections before reconnecting them.

Damn was getting ready to pull the trigger on these for my 2010 that has LED stock tail lights. Has me second guessing now.

 

You'll be fine. I've had mine for more than a year and they don't have any issues.

 

Depos suck!!! My driver side quit working after 13 months... Well I guess it still works, just doesn't light up when I hit the brakes!

I tried switching the lights and it is still dim on the passenger, leading me to believe it is not the connection. I think one of the 3 wires leading from the brake led harness inside to the circuit board is loose or faulty. I would try to look at it but I think the whole lens would have to be taken apart to get to the board!

$140 down the drain! Emailed the eBay seller and they are checking with the vendor, but it doesn't sound promising.

 

Yup same thing happen to mind and on the driver's side too. I'm glad I kept my stock.

 

Ha wish I would've kept mine! Think I sold them for $140

 

LOL that's why I never get rid of the stock stuff.

 

I'm not liking this thread...coming up on a year with my depos, so far so good but maybe I should check them. Still have my stock tails though

Is it always driver side?
Mine didn't work after I first spliced in in the wires for the top brake light on my shell but it was fine after I cleaned the plugs.

 

Bought a pair last week, had the same issue where the light on the driver side would turn off when I pressed the brake. Re-connected the wiring and they work fine now. So the problem still exists, will keep on eye on it and hope for the best.

 

Tried this, then checked it regularly for a few weeks and it seemed to be fine. Today, a kind motorcyclist pulled up beside me at a light and told me my brake light wasn't working on the passenger side. CRAP. Not sure what I'm going to do now.

 

Are they still under warranty?

You could try taking the light off and running a couple of jumper wires, alligator clips, etc. from the battery to the brake light to see if the brake light LEDs are really dead or if it's just a bad connection at the plug.
