Can anyone shed some light on this? To my knowledge it is all stock.

It could be a dealer added option that added 290 lbs to the trucks curb weight. Which would deduct 290 lbs from payload. I've seen those on several trucks, but most are well under 50 lbs. This is by far the most weight reduction I've seen.

I think I got a similar sticker in the mail to attach to my truck. Not sure what happened to it since I didn't apply it to my truck. Made me chuckle.

Are you 4x4? Dont know if they factor that in as a modification from their stock specs that get them the max payload number. All those 4x4 components weigh a fair bit though.

I have 4x4 and towing package and my sticker said 290 as well before I ripped it off. I don’t need to hear that shit.

The payload derating on my Tacoma is 8 pounds. I bought mine used so I have no idea what was installed to cause that.

I’m curious what was installed on the OP’s truck to derate the payload by 290 pounds.

Well in the link I posted, cliffyk has the exact same 290, and said he thought it was from the tow package. If OP has the same thing, would make sense rather than someone weighing 290 lbs lol.

Yeah mine is a 4x.. good to know I'm not the only one. Very odd others are exact same weight. Consensus seems to be the tow package and 4x. I thought maybe P.O. had a truck cap.

I would assume the same. Or, next time you're at a bar and a heffer won't leave you alone, just show her the sticker and say your truck won't let her in.

I have one of those stickers on my ‘10. It means the leaf springs were replaced under the recall.

I guess recall in an incorrect term. There was a TSB a few years back where Toyota replaced sagging leaf springs. The Carfax on my ‘10 shows a leaf spring replacement. The sticker says load is reduced but does not say by how much.

Update: Apparently the load capacity is reduced by 290 pounds. This means I won’t be able to give my mother-in-law rides to bingo.

I removed the cast aluminum running boards and spare tire from mine. Saved about 100lbs.

Interesting... does yours have the same sticker on door jam as pictured? Curious how this relates to post.
