Hi. I've been searching North America for a 2.7L 4 cyl, crew cab 4X4 Taco for more than a year. I can find one with the bigger engine (3.4L 6 cyl) in 4X4 and one with the engine size I want but no 4X4, but I can't find the 2.7L 4 cyl in 4X4. Several Toyota dealers have told me that they were built with those specs. But for the life of me, I can't find one. I'm looking for one that is a 2000-2004. Am I crazy? Does anyone know if what I'm looking for exists?

No such thing as a 2.7 double cab.

When i was looking for mine, i am pretty sure i saw some 4x4 with 4 cyl. 2nd gen. though. good luck. You should get the v6, holds power longer and for a 4x4 a v6 is the way to go. Furthermore, the gas savings would not be that much...

AAAAHHHHHH! STOP DA PRESSES!!!!!! I was way wrong in saying there were not 4-banger 4x4's there WERE! I dug up the dealer pamphlet describing the 2001 Tacomas I got when I bought the truck new....they-at least in '01-made a 4x4 REGULR cab w/2.7L, and an extracab w/2.7L!!!!! SWEET! I never tripped! So there ya go! I'll try a search 4 ya here in California and see what I can see:)

Remember a few of the 1st gen trucks at dealers; loaded 2.7 automatic, pretty sure it was 4WD, but may have been a PreRunner Can't remember but I think it had 4.30 Diff(s) with the oversize wheel and tire pkg, or 4.10 with the standard 225/75-15's. Knew someone who had one, and it was not fast, but not that slow either; as when they took trips to the beach with 4 people, maybe 200lbs of luggage and misc items (no towing) it was slightly faster than the older sons 91-92 4WD 22R/5SPD reg cab with slightly larger than stock 30/9.50-15's (225/75-15 stock).
