Damm... you'd be surprised on how well the stock front bumpers take hits... sad but should've taken out the pup...

    Glad you're ok

The fact that your ok is awesome. Everyone avoids dogs. Say what you want but when the animal runs in front of you, let's see if you say, "oh well." and hit the dog.

    Any salvageable parts?

Lift tires etc? For the new taco?

Any exciting news on a new one?

Indeed. Don't ask me how I know, but sometimes careful application of a wedged 2x4 will pop animal bumps right out. If you have a base with an unpainted bumper there's zero leftover visible damage unless you know exactly where to look.

As for dogs, two Hondas ago I came over a hill on a gravel road and there were many puppies in line with momma, and I got on the binders and it made no difference even at 25 mph. We warned them for years to keep their dogs out of the road. If I'd have swerved, I'd have wound up wrapped in barbed wire in the ditch. Felt bad about that one for a while but there was nothing I could do.

I would try to avoid a moose or MAYBE a deer. Anything smaller, I'll try my best to stop, IF it is safe (no traffic close behind me), but if I hit it (which I have), it's better then losing control of your vehicle. Glad you're all ok. Curious to know what kind of animal you were avoiding.

Its crazy that even seeing this people here still say they will swerve from an animal..

Going sideways into a ditch or into a tree or other things at full speed is a heck of a lot worse than slowing down as much as you can and impacting something head on,

A lot more damage happens in a sideways impact than a frontal one..

Betchya OP does next time...your instincts tend to change if they didn't work so well the first time. I know mine did, and I tend to follow along the lines of Bart and the electrified cupcake (Old Simpsons reference...)

Had a Commander that swerved to avoid a deer when he was in college. Ended up off the road. He said his age and some inclimate weather made it a pain when dealing with the insurance. He stated the fur stuck in the the grill would speed up any claim. He actually had in his safety brief "hit the deer". When I was in WI our unit had three deer collisions in one week another one swerved and went off the road. Guess which one was given a breathalizer?????
