Maybe a dumb question but is there any over hang of the tonneau cover for the tailgate or can you open the tailgate without raising the tonneau?

You can open and close the tailgate without lifting the diamondback.

If I sleep in the thing, can I shut it and let myself out in the morning from the inside. Just wanna know if I'd be trapped.

I think you could open it by moving the arms that act as the locking mechanism. I’m able to move mine by hand if needed when tightening it to the rails and such.

Any way you can check it? I don't wanna buy it then be found in the back a skeleton in 2034.

But you’re cool with that happening to me??

seriously though I just checked mine by dropping the tailgate and opening it with the locking “arms” and it worked.

That said, it’s gonna be dark and stuffy in there, good luck!

Quality isn't all that great. The cap clamps that hold down the center plate is purchased as an extrusion so they just cut it with a saw which is why they aren't exactly the same size and have the ugly saw cuts on the sides (too cheap to throw it in a milling machine and make a single pass of .01 of an inch with an endmill). The lock brackets are not deburred and sharp as hell can't spend 30 seconds to have somebody clean it up. And for the bending...this one is the biggest one. With my either the material was cut short or it was sitting in the press crooked but they let it go by anyway even though it looks like this.

Notice how the gap is getting bigger and bigger as you go from right to left. Yeah that quality seems to be a bit lacking. Most of the people will no doubt say that my gripes are small because there is nothing on the market like the Diamondback. But also there is nothing on the market that costs as much as on either so yeah....
I'll give it a 2.5 out of 5 in the end.

Good call out and review on your cover. I agree, if you are going to have a high price cover and high human touch, you definitely need to focus on quality control big time.

Do you have the HD or SD? And do you know what year you purchased it from? Reason I ask is because I am curious if they listen and maybe have made some quality improvements.

I have the SD. It was ordered through the last DB group buy on here ran by realtruck two months ago. I threw it on in the 1st week of February so it was most likely out of their January 2020 batch.

Even if you can operate the latch from inside, just sleep with a ratchet just in case so, worst case, you can just loosen the bolts that hold the locking mechanism in place and get out that way.
Not my circus or monkeys but they do seem to listen. I actually bought a cover from their outlet store so it was discounted and apparently ‘blemished’. I’ll be damned if I can find anything wrong with it but they still asked for a review of their product. I really like the cover but I don’t like that it uses a standard tool box key to open. They actually sent me a sample of the new tumblers they were working on that would improve security so I could review those also, even sent me a t shirt for the review. I’ve had my cover for about 2 years now, still love it.

Hey fellas, our apologies this thread post has flown under the radar...

First off we appreciate the feedback. Good catch on that center panel, certainly this cover should not have left the factory in this condition. Have you reached out to our support team with this information? We firmly believe you absolutely get what you pay for and that our products are worth every penny. Quality is at the forefront of every DiamondBack. Products should be made to last and our goal is to fulfill this with every cover that leaves our hands. If your cover doesn't meet this expectation, our lifetime warranty steps in.

If you haven't yet, please reach out to support@diamondbackcovers.com or drop us a line at (800) 935-4002 (Option 2) and we can go about seeing how we can remedy this.

She runs. What more can I ask for?
Is there a way to get some of the odds and ends ordered for an older Diamondback?
Specifically looking for some of the o-rings that go around the locking bit and cotter pins for the hinges.
