    Hey TW,
I’m very interested on purchasing the diamondback SE tonneau cover. I was expecting some sales or discount due to the holidays but seems like they are not having anything. What would be a second best or comparable tonneau cover to consider? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated! Please post pictures of what you have as well, thanks!

Sadly you'll eventually have to accept the Diamondback tonneau is completely unmatched in its class, haha. It's a tough pill to swallow, literally everyone has this internal struggle about whether it's really worth it, and it really is. There are plenty others that will do the job, lock, protect, etc. but there's something about the Diamondback that can't be beat. I debated and compared the diamondback well before I even owned my Tacoma. In the end, once I took delivery of my truck, I ordered a Diamondback. As for the promo thing - they simply wont bother discounting because it's a product that works, sells well, and is timeless. I don't blame them, and I don't encourage the idea. Your only chance is stumbling upon a partnership with some type of influencer/youtuber (very rare) or if you are in the Military.

I say sell the wife, sell the kids, the Diamondback is worth it. :anonymous:

Lol, I hear ya! I’ve gotten my eyes open for the longest and I was hoping they would have them on sale for Black Friday but nothing, very disappointing. Maybe a group buy if the company allows it (?).

Check out/contact youtube user Last Line of Defense, I recall he had a coupon code to use for Diamond Back covers. Don't know if it is still valid.

All 50 promo codes went in less than 3 minutes, this was back in June I believe. Someone at Diamondback mentioned to me that they went quick.

I just got my Diamondback HD cover for my 3rd gen DCLB. I can tell you the cover is well worth the money. Their products speak for themselves and since there are no comparable products they kind of have the market right now. With that said you should contact member @eccracer104. He was the one that I contacted for my diamondback purchase. Great guy and gave me a quick response time.

Do you need to drill your bed side for installation or is a plug and play?

No drilling is necessary. The middle section clamps onto your rail. The section closest to the cab locks into your rail and the section closest to your tail reuses the bolts in the rear of the rail to secure a locking bar that the rear section locks into. There are no new holes you have to drill into your bed.

That’s good news! I heard someone said that you needed to drill holes for the locking mechanism and I wasn’t to happy about that. I would like to called them and see if they can build me one without the outside “tie down hooks” and the inside tray. My main usage for the cover is to better utilize my bed and get things secure/safe. My truck is my daily driver.

My truck is my DD and I absolutely love my diamond back. If you want me to take some pictures I can do that for you. You do not need to drill any new holes into your bed. The inside tool tray is an an extra $300 or close to it. If you call them I’m sure they can make a custom cover for you without the tie down points, why you’d prefer them without is beyond me.

I am also planning on getting a '19 Tacoma TRD OR DCSB as a DD also. The Diamondback SE would be the 1st thing I'd buy. How long have you had it?

I think it add an additional 80 lbs to the truck. Did you see any decrease in fuel economy?

    Any insights greatly appreciated. Thanks

I’ve only had mine since September but have put 4K miles on it already and have been loving it. I had it on my Taco through both Hurricane Florence and Matthew with zero problems. I haven’t had any problems with water getting in to my bed. However if you are trying to get something that is 100% water sealed there have been others who’ve had dust and water get in a little bit at the edges. As far as fuel economy goes I’ve got the HD which I believe is heavier then the SD and I’ll average 19-20MPG.

I purchased my Tacoma dclb or 4x4 back in May
The 1st mod I bought was a DB SE with the large cross bed box. I plan on keeping and enjoying this truck for 20 yrs.
the DB will still be working in 20 yrs when I sell the truck. You can’t say that with any other cover. I’ve had several Toyota 4x4 with toppers and for my application there a pain in the ass and not as secure as the DB. I don’t want people see gear in the back of my truck. When I have gear locked in my bed with the DB people can’t see anything and it’s pretty damn secure.
Yea the DB is a little pricey, but IMHO there’s nothing that compares to its features and quality
    BUY ONCE CRY ONCE.

There’s on positive or negative effects on gas mileage.

    Go to YouTube and watch
Last line of defense. Video on his DB

Thanks for the insight. So it looks like it doesn't affect MPG that much. I'm in California so not too concerned about needing 100% water sealed. 99% is fine with me. It's the added security I see with the Diamondback as compared to the others (e.g., BackFlip MX4). I'm in the Bay Area (San Francisco) so that added security is important.

First image is towards the tailgate. You can screw into your bed if you want but I’ve been running it the way you see in the pic without any concerns. It has a solid lock up.

Second image is of the middle section that just slides onto your rail and screw clamps on.

Last two images are towards the cab. The locking bar locks up in the rail.

Yep, probably not 100% rain proof, but no cover is. Or topper they all leak a little in spots.
It is the back of a pickup truck.
I live in the Mojave desert, we don’t have rain issues or rust issues.
The DB weighs like 100 lbs. and it makes your truck more aerodynamic, which is a benefit to fuel mileage.
If you’re ex military they do offer a 10% discount

Do you find useful the aluminum tray? It looks like is not as deep. I dont think is going to hold grocery bags etc. (I’m asking for my wife, she uses the truck for groceries, Lol)

Thanks. I'm about 40 miles east of San Francisco, but frequent there and surrounding areas bi-weekly. The breaking into car windows is an issue.
