If you sign on for a fixed rate for a fixed term , are you allowed to pay extra off the principal monthly or annually ?

Yes you can.......anytime you want. I have never done so but I am asked every month when I pay online if I want to pay additional towards principle or additional towards escrow.

I had a 25 amortization on our mortgage when we first got our house , my payments at the time were $940 / month , I rounded it up and paid $1000 / month , the extra $60 / month at the beginning shaved 5 years of payments off

I believe it. My current payment for taxes/mortgage/homeowners is over $1,500.00 per month. That along with many many other bills and a $600 truck payment mean I no pay any extra :D

You bastard. I am so going to post some pictures eventually. Actually, leaving behind my back yard will be the hardest part. It is finally maturing after completely scraping and regrading it with a bobcat and starting from scratch 8 years ago.
