Did getting a tip on your exhaust help the soot?

I know that running rich is one of the characteristics of the 4.0, but I was wondering...any of you guys that have this, did you put any kind of tip on your exhaust to possibly collect some of the soot? I'm not worried about the longetivity of the engine or anything, but it's really annoying to wash a white truck and have this brown, rough patch by the exhaust that I have to clay or polish every time. Just wondering if an aftermarket muffler/system/tip helped anyone with this? Thanks.

The only thing that helped me was cutting the exhaust pipe where it dumps over the axle, under the truck. That way there is NO soot on the back of the truck. No sound difference, no CEL, no problems. It is my favorite "mod" so far :)

edit: this is the thread about it, if youre interested.

Thanks, I do appreciate the reply. I saw that thread. I could do that, but I'm not much a fan of dumped exhausts. It's not that I dislike them as much as I really like a nice exhaust tip and system. It does look like as far as solving the soot issue that this is my only option though. Thanks again.
