This was actually my first thought. I know when a tranny is low on fluid it can grind, and have rough downshifts.

I'll make sure they check the level when I take it to them

Ya I will be having it looked at as soon as I can make an appointment. I try not to go too much off noise, but the frequency of it , and the rough downshifts have me thinking something's definitely not right

Make sure you let them know your?? lawyer?? on retainer??? that you keep for all forms of general litigation??? Is on speed dial when you show up. That’ll get the ball rolling.

There are barely any Tacoma's available near me to go drive. It's been two weeks since I bought this, so idk how much my perception could have changed.

I don't expect my Tacoma to be a Supra, but there is definitely something not right

This is not the time. Dont go in guns blazing talking about lawyers.... it never ends well. Also, Toyota has better lawyers than you could ever have.

Make time for the dealer , let them fix it , report back here what they did and how it's doing --- enjoy life .

Haha I definitely won't be going in guns blazing. I am just used to dealers trying to avoid issues, but lawyers are pretty much the last resort.

I will be making a dealer appointment. I'm going to be firm on getting a loaner or having them pay for a rental.

    Oh my......

You have a suspected issue with your truck.
Haven't had the dealer try to diagnose the problem
Wanting to claim "Lemon Law" without taking 1st steps
Ready to intimidate with the Lawyer card......
Don't want to waste time, but delaying for 2 weeks

Get the truck to the dealer. Don't try to diagnose or guess at the problem. Just simply relay the symptoms and the condition the symptoms manifest. If they need the truck for a week.....go rent a car from Budget or Enterprise or Hertz or ride a bicycle.

You are a long way from Lemon Law or calling in a Lawyer.

    Good Luck.

If they had resolved it they wouldnt have done it by not taking it to the dealer. You wont accomplish anything by not having the dealer look at it.

Don't waste anymore time trying to figure it out yourself. As a mechanic I can confirm that the first thing I do when diagnosing something is throw just about everything the customer says out the window other than their symptoms.

I would suggest that when you go to the dealer, you are very gentle and involve the service department in the process, inviting them to listen and provide their feedback. Let them solve the problem and don't give them suggestions unless you are absolutely certain what the problem is, which is pretty clear that you don't. And if you have to leave your truck there for a few days and they don't give you a loaner, well, go and rent a car for a few days. Sometimes that's the price you have to pay. Or you take Uber or Lyft for a few days. But until you take it in and actually ask for a loaner if you need one, you're just assuming the worst without knowing a thing.

I understand that, but I do have a good deal of education on mechanical systems. I agree tho, 99% of customers don't know what they're talking about.

I almost had a lemon on my first 2016 truck we had serious problems with the break. I did not have my truck for almost 30 days it was in and out of the shop. I went to 2 dealers finally they sent out a technican from the corporate. They figured it and gave me 10000 mile warrenty. Never had another problem
You might take it to a different mechanic and have him look at if it is a real problem you have a independent leg to stand on. Then you can call Toyota corporate.

I have had previous issues with this dealers service dept. which is why my view is a bit cynical.

I hate the idea of renting a car when I just bought a brand new truck. Seems absolutely insane
