I just went to my local Toyota Dealer for the Spiral cable recall. While there I asked to buy an Oil Filter. I got several different 90915 YZZ oil filters and I would then tell the Parts person I was suppose to get the 90915 YZZG1 But she kept going into the parts warehouse and coming back with different YZZ, D'snd F's. The last one she gave me was a 90915 YZZD1 and said that Toyota had changed the numbers around??? Well does anybody know if Toyota changed the 90915 YZZG1 To 90915 YZZD1?? I have a 2008 Tacoma 4 cylinder.

This is the one referenced in a lot of the threads here. Looking at the pics of both it looks like the YZZD1 is a bit shorter than the 3. Probably the same otherwise. Not sure about the other letters though.

What truck do you have? First Gen, Second Gen guessing the second gen because of the spiral cable recall. Is it the 4 or 6 cylinder? Seems like the 90915-YZZD1 is for the 4 cyl and YZZD3 is for the 6 cyl second gens. But I could be wrong. I have always used the YZZD3 on my 6 cyl. The first time I went to the dealer to get an oil filter they gave me a YZZD1. I went outside to the truck looked at the part number and filter size and took it back in and told them again I had a V6. They went and brought out the YZZD3.

I used the 90915-YZZD3 on my 22R-E and use it now on my 1GR-FE. The only difference between the D1 and D3 is the length and the total filter area because of it.

I used the 08922-02011 for years and Toyota changed it to 90915-YZZG1. Both were designated FO-8, made in USA by Denso IIRC. That eventually got superseeded to 90915-YZZD1, the shorter of the two from Thailand, also designed FO-8. My parts guy at the time mentioned the D3 was taller and by then I stopped giving a shit so I said "OK, whatever." It's called a FO-11 on the box.

Yeah, I revived the thread. I guess I felt it was inconclusive. I don't think the YZZD1 is JUST for the 4-cyl. I think most parts databases have it set for the gen 1 V6 as well 5VZF3. I was going to jump on the bandwagon and order the bigger YZZD3. However, I'm pretty sure the dealer has been putting the smaller YZZD1 in the truck since new, and now at 175,000 miles it's still happy. So I'll stick to that.

Just think it would be useful for others to know not to stress too much about it. Either should do. But from what I see, the YZZD1 is actually the correct for the gen 1 regardless.

YZZD1 and YZZD3 oil filters are interchangeable, with the YZZD3 providing a slightly higher capacity.
