Seems a bit more troublesome to do that imo

I've done it with a spring compressor as well, and found this method way easier. But to each his own.

Spring compressors can be 'borrowed' from Autozone for no charge.

Rear shocks are not side-specific, as Virginiabound stated, but the spring packs are, to allow for all that additional weight on the driver-side (gas tank, the driver , front drive line, steering components).

The spring compressor you can "borrow" is pretty sketchy IMO,that style can be kinda dangerous. The alternative method works very well and I think is much safer.

Rear 5100s for his '01 DC are indeed side specific, different PNs, different lengths. Passenger side is longer.

X2 on the auto zone compressor. My friend used one once and I made sure to stand way back. That's some scary stuff.

From what I can tell... He doesn't want any lift.

So either drop the front down or lift the rear to match.

I can't say about the rears...

Yes, you are. He doesn't want any lift and the rears are side specific! The passenger side is almost an inch shorter. OP, the longer one goes on the driver side. If he got standard Tacoma 5100s there are two different part numbers, one is drivers one is passenger. Depending on the production date these numbers can vary. Only if you chose to buy equal length 5100s (not specifically for a Tacoma) or 5125s will you escape side specificity. Notice how specify two model numbers on the buy page.

After driving around for a couple of days, I kind of like the lift now. If I can level the back without doing anything too major, I'll just keep the lift to be honest.

Well the leafs are originals from 2000, so they're starting to have negative arch. Should I just get a new leaf pack? And then the AAL?

Yeah, get new packs. You may not need an AAL depending on which pack you get. I'm not knowledgable about them though. I got new factory leafs with my frame so I just got shackles

Ok OP... I just replaced my complete suspension 300 miles ago.

Bilstein 5100 on all corners. OME 880's front. General Spring of KC leafs with Daystar greaseable 1 1/4" lift shackles in the rear.

If you want NO LIFT IN THE FRONT, drop the clip to the bottom groove.

Keeping lift in the front. Just need to figure out what to do with the rear. Also I'm on original coils. Think those should be replaced?

If you replace them with lift coils and lower your shock preload, it'll probably ride better
