lol just messing. I know the cummins and dodge kinda go hand and hand.
And a powerstroke or duramax would make absolutely no sense when you have a cummins to choose from.:D

Thank you. I will look into it. I actually did do a search, but you get tired of looking at threads with no info whatsoever., so you stop searching and make a thread.

Try around $25,000, but I am sure most got the point... You need to be commited to it to go that deep. BUT if you consider the price of a new Hilux and the fact that they are more stripped down than a Tacoma, you get about the same deal and more truck. The Hilux trucks our Armed forces have been using in Iraq are a bit narrower and have no "options" to speak of. Not that that is a bad thing,I like simple, but... I am just saying I feel that it is a darn sweet swap by guys who know what they are doing, and the truck will look like it was made that way when you get it back. Only bad thing is........... There is an 18 month wait for this service. That should say something about how good they are. I am not a customer but I am saving, and hope that the list is not so long I die before I save enough to get on it. I really do think they should just offer one in the US. C'mon Toyota!!!

I just bought my wife a VW Sportwagen TDI and it's an awesome car and it got me thinking how perfect my Tacoma would be with a turbodiesel. I would pay another $3-4K in a heartbeat for the same truck new with a diesel and can't believe no small to mid-sized pickups are offered with one. Emissions are a non-issue with modern TDI technology so it's just a matter of logistics of supply, installation and distibution for the manufacturer to offer the diesel option.
The DieselToyz looks like a first class conversion - but with an 18 month wait I'm sure I'd lose interest before my number came up.

4BT's are very noisy and not all that efficient (compared to OE options) and are becoming more difficult to find.

Not reading every page. @anothernord did an Yota diesel swap into his 1st gen. Don't believe it was anywhere near $15k.

Yes, it was much lower than that. However, I had to be extremely, extremely crafty at sourcing parts to keep the cost down.

Keep it simple, do a 3B! There's like.. 4 wires to swap and no fussy computers. The only downsides are:

    It probably outweighs the truck
You'd get more horsepower and better mileage out of a Yaris engine
Heaven help you if you ever needed to get it smogged...

Truthfully tho it'd be the easier and cheaper swap. I put a 3b into a fj60 and turboed it. It was a lot of fun, but neither fast nor efficient. You could find a 13B-T for a slightly more modern approach. There's lots of Canadian cruisers that are now of age to import into the states that would be a good donor.

I have looked into a diesel swap for a 2nd gen. The diesel toys option is by far the best but you pay for it. I myself like the Toyota D4 engine, it will mate up with all the electronic stuff of the 2nd gen (ABS, etc). Things to consider though, are emissions in your state. In my state, they require an emissions test on my taco every other year. Emissions are based upon factory equipment, not "what it has now". Just things to think about. Don't want to invest all the $ if you cant legally register it for actually using outside of a farm.
