Ok I need some help. I want to lift my Tacoma 2" so I'm deciding to get bilstein 5100s in the front and back, toytec coils in the front, and adding a 2" leaf in the back. Do I need to add a diff drop kit?

I added one of my 1st gen when I did the lift. In hind sight, I don't think it was needed at all.

Ur profile says u have a prerunner...... No front diff to drop ;)

Even if u had a 4wd tho, NO u don't need a diff drop, they are not effective on a 2nd gen.

Thanks yall. Just making sure. Will a lift make my gas mileage change though?

    slightly.
the bigger hit to the MPG's comes with the larger tires that usually accompany the lift

I'm running a 2.5" lift front and rear, and 285 duratracs. I noticed virtually no change in mpg compared to stock, once I accounted for the larger tire circumference in my mpg calcs. *Maybe* a 1mpg change, tops.

Its gonna be affected more by the tire size, proper inflation, and mostly the load range.

I've seen this same statement several times on this forum, but never an explanation of WHY it's useless on a second gen. Anyone care to explain?
I already bought one, but if it would do anything I won't waste my time installing it.

What kona said. Plus on the 2nd gen it doesn't completely drop it, it just rotates one side of it down a little.

O.K. so it seems the diff drop mostly just rotates the differential and drops it a very small amount and offers a small amount (like 1 degree) of CV angle relief.

I won't be installing mine, I wonder if I can get my money back from ToyTech?
