Diff oil and transfer case?

Just purchased a 2012 4.0 Tacoma. I want to change out my rear and front diff oils along with my transfer case. I’m going to use Mobil one 75-90 synthetic but do I need the stuff with LS in it?

Check your manual. The rear diff may have a label showing LSD is required.

Open differential
Not limited slip differential

 

You don't need it. The 75-90 may have the additive built into the oil and that's ok. It won't harm anything.

 

For a 2012 you do not need it. However the Mobil 1 already has it in it, but won't hurt a thing.

75w-90 or valvoline 75w-90 ful syn (what ever is cheapest at the time) in front, rear and tcase, no issues even with the "non" needed LSD additive.

 

Around here Mobil1 75-90 got expensive. Bought Valvoline syn instead. Put Lucas 85-140 in the F dif because of the ECGS needle bearing mod.

 

I agree....ain’t cheap around here either. But the interval is 30k. So that's every 2 years for me at 15k a year. I can swing that.

Here's the gasket part number. Get 2 of them.

If you guys are looking for a good cheaper alternative for gear lube Supertech 75w90 synthetic goes for $7 a quart and is made by Warren. It even has the limited slip additive in it already. While I have M1 in my transfer case I've been using the ST in the front and rear differentials.

 

I think Supertech is very under-rated. I've used it in several of my vehicles, submitted it for oil analysis, and always been pleased with the results. That being said, the vehicles were all naturally aspirated and low stress (only highway/town driving), so I don't know how it would perform under more "vigorous" conditions...

It meets the spec. Looks bulk, just curious which brand is it?

just a general recommendation from ECGS based on their findings, not necessary you have to run it due to the bushing. got 100k mi on my ecgs bushing with
