    To clarify some responses, you only have to do both if you put it in 4X4. When I regeared, I couldn't afford to do both at the same time and didn't want to wait until I could. I regeared the rear diff first and did the front about 5 months later. I taped a big NO sign to the 4wd selector in case I forgot. You can go as long as you need to without doing both as long as you never put it in 4X4. Just make sure you understand it will be very costly if you forget and put it in 4X4, but as long as you stay in 2wd there are no issues at all with different gears front to back.
