So how often should I replace the fluid?

Usually every 30,000 miles for normal street driving or 15,000 miles if you tow a lot or drive through a lot of deep water.

I haven't seen any manual specify fluid temp when checking diff levels... I do like to drain fluids when they are pretty warm because they flow better and the junk is not settled at the bottom. When you refill fresh fluid, it will usually be room temp anyway, so I wouldn't worry about warming it up... you have plenty of headroom for some temperature expansion.

I actually had to completely redo the process as I was unaware the diff uses crush washers... So after redoing everything I can confirm for sure the diff holds much more than 3.12 quarts or whatever the spec says. Are least to make it dribble out. I filled it too I could feel it with my finger and said "SHIP IT"!

    so far so good
