Correct. Heavy amounts of foreground light are not conducive for down-range visibility. These lights, when equipped with a fog lens, are intended for poor or foggy conditions. However, a lot of folks are finding that these lights do a very good job of filling out ditches, and run them all the time.

Fogs are supposed to spread lots of light in front, not really for throw. That's what your main beams are for. I love how they light up the whole freaking area in front of your truck. It gives you a clear view of the sides like you've never seen before! I bought a set for my wife for Christmas, as the lighting from her 4runner actually sucks. After I change her fogs to these SS3s, it's going to make a world of difference for her!

Yes, but lighting up the area in front of your truck makes seeing at a distance more difficult. The more foreground light you have the less effective your driving lights are.

And seeing the ditches is nice but if you are overdriving the light in front of you (fogs at highway speed) then you are certainly overdriving the light that is illuminating the ditches.

I turn mine off when I get to the highway but love them around town as we have very few streetlights so it helps me see people at the edges of crosswalks and things at night. Running the Pros, they do great with resisting snow and ice build up here in the Canadian Rockies.

After having Lasik a few years back my eyes are lacking a bit. For night driving I prefer as much light as I can get, wherever I can get it. I run my fogs pretty much 100% of the time as it seems to help with eye strain. In my other car the lights have enough output and a long enough area that is lit that I don’t seem to have the same issue.

I got sport fogs and pro ditch. Wish I would have gone pro fog too. I think after most of us get sports we just say "well, good enough and better than it was". But the pro's even though I have them as ditch w/ driving/flood combo are noticeably better than the sports.

I've used both the sport and pro. I like that the sport are a bit more focused and light output was much more than oem. The pros put out enough output to put a grin on your face, but is not as sharp as the sport. From what I gather from others, the max has a sharp cutoff as well. If i had to do it all over again, I'd probably get the sport for my daily and max for my weekend/offroad rig and skip the pros altogether.

I can see fine at distance, thats not the goal of my fogs. If you need distance, then you would get the driving lens model of the SS3. I got the fogs for up close and the peripheral area in front of my truck that needed lighting up. The driving beams are like a laser, the fogs kinda fill in the surrounding area if that makes sense. Some want spot and some want flood. That’s why they offer 2 different models, so you can’t go wrong with what you choose.

I have a 2020 Toy. and my stock head lights and fogs are crap, so I switched to DD fogs and it is a hug difference. I could run them and not use the headlights. After six months of use, I have had only one person flash me.

It would be nice if DD would come out with a plug and play low/high LED headlight for us stuck with halogen lights.

Same here. I have driven around with the fogs and daytime running lights and forgot to turn my switch forward another click to turn the main beams on. I'm impressed with how much you can see with these fogs! I recommend them to everyone.

IMO save up and get the OEM LED headlights and install them with a plug and play harness you can find on here. They've been the best mod I've done to the truck. I had halogens as well before and it barely lit up the road. Now everything is crystal clear with clean white light with a beautiful cut off. Pricey for sure, but you get OEM quality and incredible light output.

I paired up the headlights with SS3 Pros Fogs I ordered off Hotshot as well and it's been a great combo for me.

Dang these look so much brighter than my ss3 sports, I think I aimed them too low! I put them in a year ago, might be time to mess with the aim and maybe clean them off too :D

About how much would I be looking at for OEM LEDs?

I second that notion. The OEM's are top notch and half the reason I bought this truck ;)

About $1300 minimum. Just about the best light you can get, but you do pay for it.

I would say a projector HID mod to the stock lights might come close but that will still be quite a bit. I’m not sure if crash has the RX350s measured, that would be interesting.

I spent $1302 on OEM led headlights and grabbed SS3 Max fog lights. Definitely worth it.

Yes, a bit of a price to have them.

Post #5165 for RX350s, but the bulbs and ballasts are sub-par Morimoto units. I've got much better Philips +150 and Osram +200 bulbs to test with OEM Denso ballasts, which should provide even better results. The RX350s with quality components will be higher output than the OEM LED, but at a significant complexity cost. And it requires a custom hand built headlight of which quality varies and isn't actually legal, which could end up leaking vs a direct replacement highest quality OEM component.

I was under the impression the RX350 projector was a near direct swap. Bolts in fine but with minor trimming for the shield solenoid. I hear what you are saying on the custom build but from my understanding it is not much more then doing the BLHM.

As far as legality goes I am not one to flippantly ignore what is legal and what is not, especially when it comes to poor performing LED bulbs. But let’s be honest here, a RX350 swap is closer to factory Toyota optics then an H9 swap is.

Thanks for the link btw. Not sure factory LED is going to make it onto my truck due to cost, a projector retrofit may however
