Hello all, I just replaced my front timing chain cover on my 1995 2.4 2RZ FE with what I thought was a direct replacement. However, my original engine oil dipstick tube is too large for the hole that is machined in the new front cover. Would anyone know what year Taco dipstick tube went to a small diameter?

    Thanks in advance!

The timing cover (and therefore the dipstick tube bore size on the timing cover) is the same for 1995-2004. I suspect you probably just don't have the union installed that fits between the dipstick tube and the timing cover.

    Dipstick Tube Union:
    90405-10016 - 1995 - 02/1999
    11459-70010 - 02/1999 - 2004

Hey Jeff, I just read a comment you made on
    Dip stick tube doesn't fit
    Discussion in '1st Gen. Tacomas (1995-2004)' started by mech160, Aug 1, 2020.

I am replacing the timing chain cover on my 2000 Tacoma 2.4L 2WD with a nice aftermarket one I bought on PartSouq.com (Mfr. YSK) for less than $200. It came with an oil pump and oil pressure relief valve already installed, and seems to be a very well made cast aluminum part, looking almost identical to the original. Have been transferring studs and water fittings, adding new thermostat, etc. Then I ran into a problem.

There is a round steel fitting pressed into a bore on the front of the aluminum timing cover, and that steel fitting accepts the dipstick tube. I am having difficulty removing it to move it over to the new cover. I believe you were likely talking about this particular part in the quoted comment.

My question is how do I remove that "union" and press it into the new timing cover, or do I need to purchase a new union, and if I need to do that, how do I press it into the bore on the cover? Do I just hammer it home? Since you knew the part numbers and dates of production of that part, I figured that you would be the best person to ask.

Thank you ahead for any help you might provide.

    Bill
