12tinker... is this directly under the seat or is this the grommet on the floor to the left of the drivers seat? I am aware that there is wires running along door jam on the floor to the left of the drivers seat, just not aware of any under the seat. do i have to pull up the carpet?

Didn't have time to read all of this so sorry if I am repeating but...

The E-brake handle is right there. That will lock the rear wheels and its not affected by the ABS. I used to do this in my Civic all the time in winter. If you think Toyotas ABS is sensitive, try Hondas. Also, if you disable your ABS and cause an accident and the authorities find out I'm pretty sure you'ld be in deep shit.

There is arguements for it and against it...this is just for those who are "for" and are wanting info on "how" :) everyone always turns it into a political debate and clouds a good "how to" thread with what they think is best.

No worries, jsut curious about what 12tinker had said.

pull up the plastic piece at the door threshold then look about 8 inches under the left side of the drivers seat for the wire bundle. The bundle can be seen from under the truck. I have 08 off road. I seldom need to disable now that I have better tires.

Ok i see. its a different bundle then the one that runs under the plastic piece at the door threshold. i guess you have to look under the carpet a little. thanks for the quick reply.

Hi everyone, I just spent 30 minutes with the registration process because I feel so strongly about this subject. I currently have an 08 4x4, I've always had a toy 4x4 since my first new one in 1979 so I speak with experience and confidence when I say "abs was the worst thing that ever happened to my beloved truck:confused:" it is worse in my 08 than ever before. Let me explain why. I know how a vehicle acts without it to begin with (so if your 27 years old you don't know any better) soon after purchasing it in late 07 I was hit by a driver who ran a red light, in front of several witnesses thankfully (because there was no question who's fault it was) and I know for a fact I could have skidded to a stop when I saw she wasn't going to stop. But thanks to the ABS and a little morning dew on the ground I proceeded right into the intersection where I got hit, and a two month vacation from work. Since then I realized just how bad the problem is. If you hit a bump while breaking it kicks in even on dry pavement(REALLY ?) snow it kicks in, on an incline it kicks in, the list goes on. Basically ABS is for those that don't know how to check and maintain air pressure in their tires,(now we have valve stems that do that for you too). ABS was the answer to people that can't control a vehicle skid. Even thou you can stop faster skidding, not everyone knows how to do it. For all of you, don't touch the ABS, it was developed for you. It takes the guess work out of it. So to sum it up "ABS sucks" and my 83 toyvette is still my favorite,(350efi,turbo 350) it was the envy back in the day. So if you read all this you probably figured out I buy a new one every four years, I think this is going to be the
first time in over 20 years I don't buy a new one. I'm going for the 2012 jeep wrangler rubicon with the 3.6 275hp engine. Not to fear the taco has a freshly cleaned out spot in the back of the garage where it might sit for a few years till the new wears off the jeep.

ABS is only doing what a human told it to do. It is programmed to sense when a wheel is not spinning and trys to make it spin.It is not a cure all for stupid driving. If its raining or gravel you slow down. If its both slow down even more. And if it snowing slow down even more. Its really common sense slow down and don't blame someone else for your stupidity. Its kind of like those people that do not wear their seat belts because they are afraid if they crash in a lake/river they would not be able to remove their belt. You are more likely to get struck by lightning than have that happen. ABS is great for 99% of the time but there is always the 1% that it makes it worse. I am sure ABS saves many more lives than it doesn't. Sure if you are driving down hill in the ice even no ABS might not even work. But you should ask yourself did you really need to be out driving? Sure some yes but most no. The only time I have had problems with ABS is when I was out driving like an idiot on the streets in the snow. Sure an ABS mod would be good for off road. But if you are doing it for around town thats just stupid.

I have no problem with ABS and I'm fully capable if controlling a skid, so don't lump everyone into basically a you can't drive category. I don't really look at poor weather conditions as the main benefit or draw back of abs where you might actually have time to process what you're doing. I look at the situation where youre driving and a kid runs between cars out into the street and your instinctual reaction is to slam the brakes and swerve. I'm sorry but I don't care how good you think your driving skills are if that's me driving or my kid I'd rather rely on abs than a humans ability to control a skid to have the best possible chance of not hitting them.

The fact is that ABS is not always a good thing. but your vehicle ALWAYS has it on (except 4 low of course). it should be mandatory to have an on/off button for that crap. i love my switch i wired in and have used it multiple times this winter as well as on a paved road at my work that has gavel on it. it is a steep grade down to a highway and everytime i go down it my abs starts grinding and doesnt let me stop as fast as i could without abs. i just hit my switch and i can stop better than with the abs. abs i not always the fastest way to come to a stop.

wouldnt a simple solution to disable the abs be to switch the ground wire at the relay?
