Problem with this is the ECU no longer senses the key and thus you could potentially lock your keys in your truck with the ignition on.

    Ah the beauty of android!!!

The ECU auto-locks other than when shifting into D?

And FWIW, even though I've never had it happen, I likewise don't trust body control modules and always leave a window down enough to reach the lock any time I close the doors when leaving the key inside.

But I also carry a spare key in my wallet too.

i modded mine to ware the seat belt dash light never comes on, i physically made it think the seat belt is always latched. so if i understand right, the air bags should still work since the light is off even though the seat belt for whatever reason may not be latched? (its a ritual for me to have seat belt on, i am just asking for a just in case situation)

also i have to say, the faulty spiral cable was actually a god send for me!

i have had 2 front accidents in this truck. the front bar took all the hit on one of them, a lady in a small car pulled directly in front of me and i hit her dead center on the side, the car bounced off the front bar, the spun around and bounced off my side bar. her insurance paid for the front and side bars to be replaced and have the bumper repainted since there was white paint on it from her car.

the second time, i was hit by a drunk driver who was in front of me in the left lane and decided to turn right and i clipped the back part of the bed of his truck with my driver side front trying to get out of the way. the very tip of the driver fender was bent a little, the bumper cover was ripped, then the front bar took the rest of the hit.

but if the spiral cable would have been working, both times i probably would have been knocked out by the airbag. not sure how many of you have been hit with one, but its NOT NICE!

one time the airbag honestly saved my life, i was in a mazda 626 and was hit dead, strait head on by someone, i was traveling at about 45mph, he was doing about the same. a cop was behind me, he said when we hit the cars basically stopped at dead stop and went about 6 feet in the air and dropped strait down, he could see completely fine down the road under the cars while in the air. the air bag , all i can remember was the smell of it discharging and blacking out for a few seconds.

i had 2 broken arms, 3 bruised ribs, severally bruised and swollen knee, and a knot on the back of my head because the speaker box went from the truck, through the backseat and through the windshield and it hit me on the way, but i lived. (my seatbelt was on)

but in those small wrecks, i think it would have made it worse since the discharge would have dazed me and a semi-bad accident that i could drive away from may have been alot worse.

FYI the truck was put on a reader because the airbag light ALWAYS stayed on and it was determined the cable was bad i just never took it in for recall for several years

I did this using the SENA bluetooth app on my android. The coding looks the same as popeye's but my seatbelt chime is still operational...

Am I missing something??? Thanks for any help.

I wonder if something changed for 2014s. I'd change that setting back if it didn't seem to do anything - in case it did something else?

Has anyone with a 2014 done this?

I'll change it back tonight. I left it to see if it would start working... it didn't.

Where did the original information come from? I read the scion forum. Just wondering if there is a listing of memory locations etc so I could peruse them.

Just read another (albeit older) forum post where the guy was happy with the 3 beeps initially and no more after that. Personally all I want disabled is the 3 beeps when I start the truck with the seatbelt undone. Especially in the winter I like to start the truck when I get in to allow it to warm up a bit while i put my sunglasses on, turn the bluetooth in my phone on etc.. Then I buckle the seatbelt and drive away. I never drive without buckled up (unless lining up a trailer or something similar on my property.

    Howdy,
I still think the easiest and cheapest method to completely do away with the buzzer and lights is to get a pair of seat belt extenders. Just plug and go. I got mine off EBay for about $17 including shipping. If you ever want the things working again, just remove the extenders. Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quick question, does this disable the passenger seat as well? When my lab sits up front it drives me nuts. And ya ya I know I can just clip the seatbelt in if I wanted to...

    Thanks,

    Jay

Do you have a link to the model you're using? I found a few on Ebay and Amazon but none of them look like they're the same thing as the seatbelt clips in my Tacoma.

    Howdy,
just go on EBay and search for Toyota Tacoma seat belt extensions. Mine are gray and match my factory ones. Look around on there and find the color that you need. My dealer just disabled mine but they still had the blinking lights and 5 beeps on startup. Have a goodun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello, can someone please help me use the SENA BTerm Android program? I bought a Bluetooth terminal to use as well...

I don't know how to actually input the info listed on the first page!

    Thanks,

    Jay

Yes, worked first try on my '14 last night.

I used ELM 327 Terminal from my android. It was a little easier to figure out than the SENA BTERM app.

Yeah the SENA one was a bit cumbersome at first.. agreed. I'll have to give this other one a try.

Thanks for this thread, it worked out great. I used my android phone, ELM327 blue tooth adapter I got on Amazon and ELM 327 Terminal that I downloaded from play store. It was easy to set up. Plug the adapter into your OBDII connector. Make sure your phone is not connected to anything else through blue tooth. Open up ELM327 terminal app. Press menu key and hit connect. Select OBDII and enter password: 1234. Once connected hit the timer off button. Than erase the ATI command that's in the send box. Type 3ba700, making sure there is no spaces. Hit send and you'll get back two lines of code that look like this

    7C8 03 7F 3B 78
    7C8 02 7B A7

That's it your done. If you want the seat belt chime back, type 3ba7c0 in the send box and hit send. I tried the SENA bluetooth app, but found ELM327 Terminal app much easier to use. Hopefully this simplifies the directions, so you don't have to be a computer expert to use it. I was a little confused in the beginning;0) Now download the Torque app and you can diagnose any future trouble codes. The ELM327 adapter was definitely a good buy.
