Stick it on the surface as Murrayb4 has shown with his silver vinyl?

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
That's exactly what I did with the lightdims.

Mine is underneath..I lifted the glass up, it's only held on by thin 3M tape.

My photos are showing the before and after application from below.

Yeah, sorry I didn't document the whole process. That's just the end result.
It's the bottom of the shifter glass panel.

You can CAREFULLY pry it up with a small flat screwdriver without removing the console. I did this after assembling it to get the pictures.

I'll give that a shot. I would prefer the lightdim under.

Next time I go out to the truck I'll try it with a piece of paper to see if that works, too.

I was pleasantly surprised with the result of my quick fix with stuff just laying around.

Got a shot to show the current brightness.. or lack thereof. It's how it should be.

those dimlights are just cut out pieces of smoked vinyl film.. better off just going to Amazon/ebay and buy a 12x12 sheet of smoked vinyl.. same thing. but for fraction of the price

Did you have enough room to unplug the harness by just popping the console, without removing the shift knob and boot?

Technically that's possible. But pushing the shift boot down and spinning the knob counterclockwise 14 times isn't that big of a deal, or time consuming.

I just did some testing with a 9v battery and a PWM generator I borrowed from work. I was going to see if there was a simple way to put a PWM generator inline on the PRNDS lights. It doesn't work, they flicker. So they are likely not dimmable LEDs or the LED controller is preventing it. Oh well, back to the $1 solution (masking tape). lol

@Murrayb4, when you peeled up the glass from the 3m sticky tape, did it go back on fairly strong or did you re-apply new tape?

went back on easily, no additional tape needed. i cant even pull it up by hand right now, so it held on good.
