I purchased my 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport in October 2020. There is a lot I like about it, but I am ready to either sell or trade because the driveability of this truck is terrible. Just a note, I'm a Toyota fanboy. I currently own a 2014 Lexus ES350, 2016 Camry SE and the Tacoma. So, I'm not here to bash Toyota, but the Tacoma falls WAY short on Toyota standards in my opinion.

I emailed OVTune to get more information about their product and what I need to re-flash my Tacoma with one of their tunes. I got a semi-canned response, which wasn't very helpful. I know they are busy, but I guess I need the OVTune for idiots explanation.

I am not interested in learning or doing the "tuning" of the maps, I want pre-tuned maps. With that said, does the tunepack for the Tacoma come with just base maps only or actual tuned maps? I have read on forums about the 87 performance tune, 91 performance tune, and other tunes. Are those included in the tunepack?

IF they offer pre-configured tunes, what equipment and software (SPECIFICALLY) do I need to order if I only want to flash a tune, not develop tunes?

If they don't offer pre-configured tunes, is there a tuner in North Alabama area that can provide/perform the tune?

    Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! Find someone near you who can flash the KDMAX 6.0. If you have specific questions PM @PapaRee and @TWTaco, they will get you hooked up with a tuner near you. Here is a link to some feedback on their tune!

Edit: @Boltripper or @whitedlite is in Alabama but don't know where, You can PM them also.

    It's complicated.
"Driveability" is completely subjective and difficult (if not impossible) for us to offer specific help, without more details.

Are your issues with the engine, transmission, how it drives, comfort, performance, gas mileage, etc.?

My 2019 DCLB (auto trans) suffered from the constant shifting & searching for the right gear. I had it regeared to 4.88 with the NitroGear kit; it was expensive, but the truck drives so much better! I also went the route of reprogramming with OVTune, and that removed the last few niggles I had with the truck. Unfortunately, now I'm looking to sell it, as I need a larger truck.

Interesting. The 2020s come with the much improved transmission mapping which eliminates the need for OVTune. I personally never had problems with my 2019 but after the update, shifting became so much better.

I have a 2021 TRD Sport and what I notice it seems to rush to upshift in an effort to conserve fuel. Also seems like they made the throttle ramp so long it will cause down shifts with an upshift shortly after.

when the warranty is up, only have 1300 miles on it, I will tune mine for sure!

I'm looking for this as well, after feeling how sluggish I was on the highway the other day and weird shifting stuff. You know, the amount of customization I can do to the truck myself only goes so far, and if these tunes actually increase performance then I'm very interested. A little concerned about what happens if I take it in for service though, as well as of there's ever a need to revert back to stock (would this make buying my own cable/ software worthwhile?) And for the KDMax tune, does anyone know if someone in the NorCal/ Bay Area is doing them?

Felt the same way about my 2017. Moved up to a 2021 Tundra V8 and all is good. Except the gas mileage! LOL

How are the KDMAX tunes different from OV tunes?

I gotta ask; do you know for sure it won’t affect it? I ask because, as we all know, dealerships will try to get out of any warranty work based on aftermarket additions.

Im curious though because I’m interested in getting mine tuned too, but like OP, only have like 2500 miles on mine and want to make sure I don’t shoot myself in the foot by tuning it.

If they find out, I'm sure it would. However, as most people have said, it's not easily detected.

The tune is undetectable. The ECU will still have the stock calibration.

I am a bit confused by the graph with no labels or legend to match the lines to. That said, is the bolder line supposed to be the best? If so it has less power and torque down low where you want it in a truck, unless your drag racing it. Am I misinterpreting the graph?
