Passenger side. But only in reverse. And only when the truck is cold (i.e. sitting out all night). It's so goddamned loud I know my neighbors hate me, so now I back into my spot every day...but I want to fix it. I changed the pads (aftermarket)...same issue. I bought new OEM pads and OEM rotors...it still makes the terrible noise. I can't take it to a knowledgeable mechanic: by the time I get there the truck is warmed up and I can't recreate the problem.

I thought metal contracted in the cold...what could it be? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Drop the truck off overnight so he can drive it first thing in the morning. Did you put a pad in backwards?

This is a known issue with the rear drum brakes. Mine do it too. It only happens once when backing out first thing in the morning.
