I didn't know if this should go under vendor or wheels and tires, but I chose here. :D

I am looking at these tires and wheels for my truck. I can ONLY get the wheels through TireRack b/c they seem to be the only place in the known universe that carries them. (Ultra Maverick Machined w/ Black Accent 17x8)

The tires are offered through TireRack and through Discount Tire Direct. Should I get the wheels and tires through TR and go ahead and have them mount them for me and pay them a boat load of money, or should I get them from DTD? The ones at DTD will have a E load range and will cost the same as the C load range tires from TR. (Kumho Road Venture KL71 265/70R17)

The last time I bought tires for my rig, I used the Tire Rack for pricing, then called my local Discount Tire shop. I told them what I could get the tires for and they said they would match and order the tires for me through the Tire Rack.
You might be able to contact them and explain your issue about the wheels. They can order from the Tire Rack and you get two jobs done at the same time. Also, helps with any warranty issues.
    Good luck. Ken

Most of the tire shops near here are buildings full of theives and high school drop-outs, but I will check. Thanks!

Well, no matter what you chose your still gonna have to go to the thieves or high school drop outs to have your tires/wheels installed. Actually, not all high school dropouts are bad so it would be preferable to use them over the thieves. lol

I don't know about your issue, but I do know that the Kumho Road Venture KL78 all terrain tires are crap. They were fine for the first 2k miles, but after that they started wearing like crazy and can't keep traction in any kind of mud/snow anymore. I have MAYBE 15K on them and I'll be having to get new ones before this coming winter if I want to be able to go anywhere. If the KL71s are anything like them I'd spend my money on some better tires.

Eep... well I read a TON of reviews and they seemed decent. I just don't want to pay an arm and leg and want some with a real aggressive tread. Oh yeah and 265/70R17. :(

Yea like I said I had the AT's and they are awful. The KL71s might be OK. That was just my only experience with Kumho.

    Hi Kelly,
Check the Tire Rack (upper right - shop online). There are tons of good tires that meet all the requirements you are looking for. I had Yokohama Geolander ATS on my last rig. Bought them because they were a good all around AT tire with a very reasonable price. This time as I am looking for slightly more aggressive tire I am looking at General Grabber AT2. They are very similar to BFG All Terrains at a great price. Both have good reviews and both are well priced. There are many others that will meet your needs as well. But in the end, if it's Kumho's you want then get em. Ken

Well, thanks for everyone's advice. I guess I am going to go ahead and get the wheels with tire rack since they are the only place that gives me a date of when they would be shipped to me (on backorder everywhere). The only halfway decent shop I know of around here gave me a quote for the tires at about $100 off what everyone else wanted and that included mounting and balancing and they could get them in about a day. I just have to call back and reconfirm that they are looking at the KL71 and not some other KL## (had that happen at 3 other stores yesterday).

    Everyone wish me luck! :D

    Kitty,

just remember those dates that Tirerack gives you are just the approximate dates that Ultra gives Tirerack

Those dates can change at any time...

Yeah, I am just going to get tires and all from TireRack. Damn chick at local store quoted me the wrong tire. I hate chicks I swear! Oh well a KL51 has to be the same as a KL71 right? I get them both from TireRack and they ship to me together, mounted and balanced. :pout: Now I just have to wait about a month for them to get here.

I looked everywhere in the known universe for the wheels I wanted. A few local places could get them for more $$$ and all other online sites were showing atleast $50 more than tire rack. Plus they are backordered so a lot of places wouldn't even quote me. Plus I only want new, no used! Have had too much trouble with used tires/wheels.

So they are ordered now. Of course now my bf is fussing saying the tire is going to be too big for it to look good. He said it will either look ok or be comically oversized. I guess we will see. If they turn out bad then I guess I will have some tires for sale on here! lol
