So I posted this pic a few weeks ago and built myself a shed on 4th of July weekend.
Sunday the 4th, my girlfriend locked her keys in her car and had to take the Tacoma to her other job, bar tending 35 minutes from here. No big deal, she drives the truck all the time and to tell you the truth, I kind of like watching her drive it.
Well she walked in the house at 7am the next morning and told me in a less than bubbly manner "your effing truck is on the goddamn side of the road, it blew a tire!" I sprung out of bed, obviously concerned for her safety and what kind of terrible night she had had. It took almost a full ten seconds for my mind to wander to thinking about my almost-impossible-to-replace Trail Teams rims and my BFG AT's with 7,000 miles on them. I drove down in my Jeep to check it out and this is what I saw:
Shredded. I called Discount Tire and the guy on the other end of the line told me that they had discontinued the 8ply and the only one he could get me was the 10 ply. (I verified it on tirerack and bfg) Crap! Was I going to have to buy two? I knew I didn't buy the extra coverage so I kind of expected to get screwed at the tire store. Absolutely not! Kelly at Discount tire gave me a new one (10 ply) at no charge and sold me the extended warranty on my other 3 tires because they were still so new. I really went in there expecting to have to pick a fight. And I was expecting to lose because those guys are a lot bigger than me.
That's the new guy in the front. I did end up spending $114 on the coverage for all 4 tires. You could argue that that tire never should have shredded. I consider myself thankful that DT was as understanding as they were and they have earned a customer for life.

Didja teach her to change a tire, since you had the perfect opportunity?

She could have saved herself a walk.

RIP to my 08 Prerunner DC
They are awesome in there. They had no problem taking $100 off when the tires didn't come in on the truck. They also matched sears prices the best they could, and gave me 50% off the TPMS rebuild kits.

She knows how to change a tire- but I didn't take the time to take her out there and have her do it, she was in the middle of working 24 out of 28 hours, so I just said baby, don't worry about it. Also, I really wouldn't want her jacking up the truck since i just keep the factory jack in it with blocks of wood (because of the lift.)

And yes, the rim is fine!

Yeah I always buy their extra coverage insurance. I have had a couple nail incidents on my previous vehicles and they swapped them with new ones without a question. They have always been good to me.;) I go about every 5-7K to get my tires rotated and I'm always in and out in like 15-30 minutes. Going to buy my next set of tires through them too.:) Oh and glad to hear the GF is okay!!

    Bah, weak!

Come talk to me when you've worked 132 out of 144 hours (for the math challenged, that's 5.5 days out of 6).

I'm just suprised she walked back instead of just chaning the tire. Glad she knows how to, though.

I've been using DT for the last 5 years and have always had the best of luck with them. The local shop is great. I get the extended warranty on all the tires I buy there - and some how my wife seems to tear up a tire every couple months. One of these days I figure there are going to deny her warranty, but so far we have had no problems.

Did you go back and see where the tire started coming apart? I bet she drove on it, after it went flat, because she didn't want to change it. I bet you would find tire pieces for several miles.

Theres something about the quality of those BFG AT's its not as good as they once were, a lot of friends have had blow outs or sidewall tearing up... I don't really trust those tires anymore!
