So I know the distance to empty isn’t spot on accurate because as you drive you may get more or less than. Example mine used to alway say 353 miles at fill up,but then I could drive on the freeway for 15 miles and the distance to empty only went down say to 343 so 10 miles. I get how that works. BUT the last two tanks it’s read 295 distance to empty at fill up. The only two things that have changed is I got lift and 33’s and I messed with the calibrate navigation thinking it would calibrate for the miles traveled for new tires difference but apparently that not what the navigation calibration is for. Did I do something to throw off the distance to empty buy Messing with the navy Calibration? If so how do I reset to factory ?

    Bro do you even math?

    Original 353
    Current 295 x 6.9% = 315

353-315 = penalty for going bigger.

Guessing that you’re also auto and the tranny doesn’t shift into 6th as much as it used to as well. More fuel wasted. Gotta pay to play.

Unless the speedo and odo are recalibrated the computer thinks your making revolutions on the stock tires and still calculating speed and range to empty based on that. Add to that the actual decrease in mpg from the lift and heavier tires and you end up with a much smaller computed range.

Nah bro’s. What I’m saying is this. When I’m filling up. I’m stopped. How does my truck no anything until I start it up and start moving. Before it would say 353. Start it up drive and get what I get. Now i fill it up start it up and before I leave the gas station the 353 no has been saying 295. Did it recalibrate itself as far as est

I guess. Not everyone has a great understanding in how the computer works. I figured it would say 353 and then just decrease faster. Oh well. I get the pay to play trust me. Ouch.

It's going to show an average of how much you'll get per tank based on how you drive. Take a look at the mileage section of Entune.

Ok. So everything is A OK. Except a 50mile per tank hit. Well at least I look good on empty

The new number is an average of your previous driving style, averaged over the previous "full tank estimates". Drive aggressively (lower mpg displayed) over a few fill ups, your estimated "full tank miles" will be lower on the next fill up. Drive like a grandma for five fill ups, the number works itself back up. Reset all the numbers in your system's history, drive like a grandma for one fill up, then watch the number be high again on the second fill up. However, that's ALL things being the same. Change any dynamics from stock, things change.

:anonymous:Trust me. I’ll reset. And yes I’m that guy go 55 ( actual 60) in the slow lane so I kinda hoping to get somewhere in the middle between some mpg loss and shoot myself in the foot loss. 353-295 horrible. 353 to say 323 eh happish.

Some ppl here say you won’t lose 3-4 mpg because the speedo is off and 1.5-2.5 mpg loss is more accurate. Given driving habits are same. Geez good thing i didn’t get a 6 inch lift with mud tires

Also, don’t forget, since you didn’t/can’t recalibrate your ECU for the larger tires, your speedo might say you’ve only driven 100miles (for example), but you’ve actually travelled more than that because of the larger tire size (maybe 2-5%???) It’s not a huge amount, but it adds up so the ‘MPG’ and ‘Distance to Empty’ on the dash will always show less than the true MPG and distance travelled with your new tires.
Using an old GPS and a calculator is an easy way to check....

Dang, and here I was thinking that even that 353 sounded low.. My '17 TRD Sport has showed 415 on fill ups since I got it. (Though to be fair.. still running stock suspension/wheels/tires.. I do want like a 2" lift or so, just not comfortable doing it myself, don't have the tools, nor flat ground to work.. and don't know of any good shops in my area of MA.)

The ECU code is proprietary. No one really knows what it's doing, but a guess is that the ECU "remembers" one or a few prior tank averages. The more averages it stores, the longer it will take to correct itself, and the better it will become at guessing. That's how it works if your engineers choose the ECU to do things Right.

In the Real World, engineers choose ECUs to be as cheap as possible, but appear to do things right.

So it probably stores only the last average and splits the difference from stock, so it will never be correct, and again, you pay to play.

Yes the truck will auto correct how far it thinks it can go as you have written there. When my truck was new it would say ~588 kilometres now it spits out about 550. It takes a few tanks of grandpa driving to bring it back up, as well a few tanks of hot rod driving to bring it down. (For starting up average distance to empty left after filling at gas station) It will also live update slightly (few miles) if you’re on extended road trip at a nice freeway pace distance to empty.

I have 35's w/ 6" lift and mine usually says 340 something, never under 300 after a fill up. Also added the inline speedometer RC calibrator recently.
