Hey guys, first post here so forgive me if this has already been covered. I tried to use the search function to no avail.

I'm thinking I wanna start adding accessory lighting to my tacoma, and I love the look and usability of ditch lights. One thing I have noticed though, is that the majority of people are using the square LED pods or smaller lights. Has anyone ever mounted round ditch lights? If so, can you add pictures of them to this thread?

I'd like to try and run something like this on either side:

Would that clear the windshield/pillars when the hood is open? is that why nobody runs them? Just curious as I think that would have some "look-cool factor" once they're installed.

Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked!

    I should've also stated that they're 6"

Idk if they would clear. I have a set of those but haven't installed yet. I think they're too big and bulky and would stand out as a ditch light.

looks kind of like a Baja Designs LP6? those are big. If you go to big you cant see over them

I've seen guys run them as roof rack lights but never as ditch lights

tacotoospicy, yes they're pretty much cheap knockoffs of the LP6. Do you think that it would end up being a visibility concern?

If you run a low profile mount maybe not as much. I recommend @CaliRaisedLed, also another thing to think about is hood glare, the more output the more glare you'll have on the hood

I use squadrons, you can barely see them from inside, and they don't stick out much at all. I like the low profile look and would probably go with the S2 if I were buying now.

Thanks for the input. I was planning on using caliraised anyways as I personally don't know of any other mounts comparable with the 3rd gen, but I hadn't considered hood glare. I don't want them to be unusable, so maybe the smaller pods are the way to go

No problem, I've heard great things about their ditch lights too!

Keep in mind an open reflector bucket reflector design like that will create a lot of hood glare unless aimed extremely hard to the ditch. A 6" KC Pro 6 will have much better pattern control and reduce hood glare. I'd second other peoples comments though about that large of a light is going to create a view obstruction. For ditch lights I'd suggest the 1/2 pod size, there are lights plenty powerful enough on the market so serve that purpose in a much more compact size.

I have the Vision X round ditch pods. I too prefer the look of round lights over square cubes.

I've since removed the red covers, along with all of the other red accents on my truck.

Yeah, It looks like the smaller pods are going to be the way to go. Unfortunate, because I think the round ditch lights would look pretty cool but function>form

See, thats what I'm talking about. That looks really nice, I was just hoping to go a little bigger. I do think the other commenters are correct in saying that the ones I chose are going to glare like a sonofabitch, so maybe something like yours with a more projector like lens is the way to go.

I mean, they are big but they’d work (unless the don’t clear everything’s they need to). I know 3rd gens are different but I don’t have glare problems with my truck.

And here’s this, they don’t look bad but, ferd so

Also, as others have said, be mindful of the bracket you use. I initially had the Vision X brackets, which severely placed them in my field of view.

    20200511_090552.jpg

I swapped those for the Rago low profile brackets, which hide them nicely behind the A-pillar.

JKO1998, those do look really good. I don't think I expected them to be THAT big though!
