I’ve seen a the brute force hybrid for second gens in person. The design / fabrication is real slick. The front plate is all one piece bent to fit around the body/winch mount and the wings mount to that... very effective design

I agree for me the overall hybrid is great. You get the beefiness/protection from the plating for radiator/ac condenser/engine (important shit)
But also the tubing on the sides are mounted way from the body so you do get some crumple zone which haven prove to work great so far.

Also tube look good with 1st gens

I’ll save the plate bumper for an LC Which I haven’t purchased yet:D and continue with hybrid with a new design

I based my DIY bumper off the brute force design and added the front receiver like trail gear does. I’m really happy with how it turned out6B375C4D-0E66-465C-B9F7-579195308F85.jpg 161A830C-E500-40C9-98F2-B1769B51B94B.jpg

Things are ok, frame is good which is most important. Removed the grill to find a slight deflection in the ac condenser/apron which has bent the middle support connecting the hood latch. So damage is extremely minimal and will be fixed, just a little disappointed. Insurance will cover all the repair costs. I’ll just take the payout and do it myself.

Repairs/bumper build won’t start until mid November though. Just got married this past weekend! Out of town for work this week and when I get back, I’m headed to New Zealand for the honey moon.

So current steel inventory is enough for

    - front bumper rebuild
    - skids
    - modifications to rear bumper

Finished a satoshi, it’s not the best looking ahha but it will do.

Removed the old bumper and cut everything off down to the frame mount and cleaned up the mount.

Started fabbing the new set up. And it’s coming together.

Drilling holes for the winch mount, the fairlead plate and exterior plating will be next. Saving the tubing for last.

Plates are angled at 75 degrees which match the lines of the head light/grill angles

What’s the wall thickness on the tube for your rear bumper?
I gotta build something that fits my camper. It’s a bit exposed with the stock bumper. I’m thinking 3/16”. I thought about 1/8” for lightness but would that be too light?
