Thanks, I might have to give this a go. I like the way yours works better than the anytime mods. I was thinking about running a new jumper wire from the parking light but it seems you've basically done the same thing.

subd but I have read that there is concern on the stock filaments that having both the low and high beam element on at the same time will create too much heat and melt. I know your mod was intended for altering the fog lights, I get that and understand why. But the main difference I see is that your mod allows, as I said above, for the low beam to stay illuminated when you activate the high. Have you noticed or looked for any of this? or does anyone else have input?

That's not what this mod does. This mod allows your fog lights to stay on whether your low or high beams are on. This does not alter the stock function of the headlights in any way. To have the low and high beam filament on at that same time, you'd have to look into something called a brite box. Wheelers Off Road sells them and personally, I wouldn't install one for the very reasons you mentioned. I'm sure it will decrease the bulb life.

Maybe I misread the OP original post, but I thought that this is exactly what this mod does. Fogs with high and low beam, but when you put on the high beams the low beam filament stays on. I didnt do this fog light mod, so maybe I misread his original post

Edited I have a bi-xenon kit that leaves the lows (HID) on and then activates the highs (halogen) while leaving the lows on whenever you activate the brights. I'm not sure how the stock configuration reacts.

I actually think they are right that both filiments stay on, i will have to check, but if this is the case, i personally have yet to have any issue with it and i drove around the other night with them on for a while as i was playing with all my new light additions/mods i have done in the last 2 weeks.

    You did not mis-read.
This does indeed hold the low beams on full time.

But the OP and others have been running this way for 3-4+ months without problem.

Sorry, I stand corrected. I didn't realize that this mod would keep the low beam filament on full time also. I might be going a different route when I do mine.

Thank you for confirming. I think from the handful of warnings I've read from people on here that have had melt issues with having both elements on I would be leery doing this to a stock headlight. I think I will wait until I get a set like OP's or just do the other fog on any time mod.

If a few people can veriffy this for me I'll edit the OP to reflect the new information. I've got HIDs so I can't verify myself.

Can you provide a link to this handful of warnings?

I have not read of one single "melt issue" that was related to the headlight bulbs.
The only reported melt issues have been with the turn signal lens on trucks that have DRLs.

x2, I haven't heard of any melt warnings either. I just can't imagine it being great for bulb life. I'm running more expensive bulbs and don't want them burned out even quicker because of this mod.

I plan to splice the marker light wire and run that to the fog light relay. That way the fogs can be on any time the marker lights are lit regardless of it's just marker lights, low or high beam.

I will try and find the links again about melt issues. I remember reading about in the 63 pages of the "cheap mods" thread by piercedtiger. If I recall correctly the issue was with factory lights and the fact that it is a duel element in one bulb. having both elements fired up together caused the bulb itself to melt and I believe there were two posters that stated the heat build up slightly melted or damaged the inside of their lens.
I had not heard about the marker lights have melt issues. i was planning the DRL mod also, whats the issue with that one if you could give me some info on that?
    thanks guys

The issue with adding the DTRL lights, or even on the older versions of the factory equipped DTRL Tacomas, was melting or burning of the inside of the lens from the bulb getting too hot. Me thinks you might be getting the two mixed up :)

I can speak to this part w/certainty so I will. There is NO WAY that the glass housings on OEM dual filament bulbs would melt, deform or in any way deviate from standard due to both filaments being on simultaneously no matter how long you have them on for. It's just not possible. The wires will overload and fuses will blow LONG before any sort of defect would allow for this to happen give the temperatures required to melt glass.

If I am understanding this right this is exactly what I am looking to do.

Has anyone else tried this? No blown fuses or melted wires yet?

    Thanks!
