Nope, no problems as expected and my situation is probably a worst case scenario with my setup.

Thanks for the awesome writeup man! I'm gonna save this, and do this once I buy myself a soldering iron! :)

If anyone is looking for an alternative to this, I used this thread as an inspiration but did something a little different. I tapped into my marker light, bent the tab out on the fog light relay and connected the 2. I don't have the tow package so the other fog light mod wouldn't work for me. This way, whenever the marker lights are on, the fog lights stay on (which means they stay on regardless of low beam or high beam but can't be left on with the ignition turned off). Obviously, my method requires a wire tap, OP's does not, I just didn't want to hot wire the relay (it's obviously worked for the OP and others so I'm not trying to start a shit storm by saying that, it's personal preference only).

That's already well documented prior to mine as the primary way for this mod with slightly different results. If you read this thread there is plenty of mention to it as it's the most popular way people have done it prior to this method which I posted to give others another option. Personally, I don't want my fogs on with the parking lights and now headlights so I wanted this method for myself and posted it as I figured there were others who might want another option too. This method is also easier IMO than that one but both are pretty simple as far as mods go.

I actually just realized what I did... I tapped the marker light wire up by the headlight, never realized that was the same green wire as the one next to the fuse box

Again though, I wasn't trying to take away from your thread or downplay your mod.

D'oh! Haha.. yeah, there's a slightly easier method for the way you did it. It's all good, just different ways to accomplish mods is all. :D

Hate to bring back an old thread but on my 2011 I don't see anything labeled "low beam relay" under the hood...... There is one labeled "DIM" ? that is located in the same space as your relay? Is that the correct one? I can't imagine they changed the fuse box on the 2011s... I know the 2012s are different.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Old thread? It was just posted in yesterday.

It probably is the same relay. I would make sure before you proceed though. You can use a multi-meter or have someone turn your headlights on and off while you hold your hear next to it and have your finger on it. You should hear/feel it clicking as the switch it turned on and off.

It is going to be the "Dim" relay, it is the same on my 2008

Kind of what I figured but I didn't want to give this advice unless I knew first hand for myself.

That's what we are here for! Although I'm no longer using mine this way, I converted to hids that are only low beam (cause they were free) but if I ever need to replace anything I will get the hi/low beam style next time. Still a great mod, cause if my lights are off and I flash someone all of them turn on.

Hey guys.... here's another option for the same mod... only instead of using Solder... you can use a few strands of wire and wrap it around the 2 posts:

Good option for those who don't or can't solder. Soldering makes a permanent joint and is ideal but for this application this method will work as well. Just make sure your stranded wires are twisted tightly so you don't have any straws that could potentially contact something you don't want them to. Also, leaving the insulation in the center part might make things a little bit easier. Good option and further proof that mods have many different methods of completion.

I was thinking exactly this for those who want to take the mod for a test spin before soldering up their relay! That way they can play with the lights/fogs/brights and understand what they're making first.

Good mod, on the short list for my "first mod".

That's a good option. I for one am not much of a solderer but still find it simple to solder and then de-solder should I want to undue a mod. To me the thought of loose strand of wires that could short across connections you don't want them to doesn't seem like a good way to go about things. Maybe instead one could use a solid wire instead of stranded wire. This would be thick enough that you could wrap it around and be sure that it's going to stay somewhat in place a little bit better. Using stranded wire draws a mental picture of a single little strand poking out and then making contact with one of the prongs right next door and doing bad things. You just want to make sure your mods are solid so you aren't chasing electrical gremlins later.

Ha! I still remember when putting a stereo in meant chopping wires, twisting the raw ends together and slapping a bit of electrical tape over it! The number of hot wires I didn't fuse should have burned down the neighborhood many times over.

Crimp connectors and wire taps still seem like black magic, and I've made many an add-a-fuse out of 4 uninsulated spades and electrical tape. I only recently discovered dielectric grease, and every time I use a terminal connector for a ground I feel like a professional stereo installer.

Still, I too would solder this after testing with a loose wire. :D

Man, them were the days. I still remember hanging out of the side window of a Chevy Monza at 55mph (ish) clearing the heavy rain from the windshield using a squeegee because I had shorted out most of the electronics (to include the wipers) replacing the 8-track with some whiz-bang technology. Good thing the windows were crank or I woulda been hosed. lol

    Times sure have changed. :D

    LOL!

But the blue clamp-on wire taps are black magic... or, at least they are evil.
    They will fail eventually.
