Reviving this thread... if i am running Baja Design sport driving lights as fogs, does anyone know if the relay can handle the highs beams, low beams and aftermarket fogs? Sorry if this has already been solved.

    A little a this, a little a that...
Been rocking this mod for two years now without issue. The light output is so much better than stock and so easy to do. Thanks again to the OP!

I don't know. I don't have a 3rd gen. My guess is that there's a similar relay though that would allow you to do something similar.

I remember this thread and was going to do it on my 2nd gen but I traded in the truck for my '18. I like the idea and searched for the 3rd gen equivalent but never found anything.

Might have to wait for you to buy a 3rd gen. ;)

You may be waiting while. :D

They tend to not change these trucks much from gen to gen so my guess is there's a similar relay in a similar location and you can compare the different pins to see if it's the same or not. My guess is that if it's not the same it's awfully close to the info contained in this DIY. If you find that it's the same I can update the OP of this thread with the confirmation that it's the same or whatever minor changes need to happen to get it done. I just don't have a truck here to test or I'd do it myself.

Ok I'll research and let you know. I have access to Toyota wiring diagrams.

Between that and this "how to" you should be able to figure it out I would imagine. Like I said, it's rare that these trucks differ greatly from generation to generation. It's usually minor differences and they keep as much the same as possible in order to save cost by reusing parts they've already developed.

So checking out Toyota's fog wiring diagram for the '12 and comparing it with 16-18's the wiring is completely different. The 3rd gen does use a fog light relay and would need a 12v source to the control side of the relay.

I'm looking at what you did with the 2nd gen and it appears that you have found that the middle terminal on the switched side of the relay has power to it when the high beams are on. Did I get that right? The Toyota wiring diagram for the fog lights only shows terminal 3 and 5 of the relay (switch side) and not the middle terminal.

I tried this mod on a '15 running the Philips H4 Led and and h11 led fog lights and it disabled my high beam. does anyone know if the other mod with the inline fuse holder will work on this set up? or any other ideas?

Does anyone know if removing the 2 prongs completely would give the same results?

Ended up opening up the relay, soldering in the shunt on the inside and closing it back up. Invisible and works great!FullSizeR.jpg

So let me get this "fog light mod" straight. Correct me if I'm wrong, just trying to understand lol. So you can have your low beams and the fog light on at the same time as your high beams. Right??

Fogs will stay on when you switch to your high beams. Headlights low/high function at normal.

I want to do this on a 2012 tundra. Is it possible to do the same thing with a relay? It only has 4 pins
