DIY Hi-Lift and Tool Mounts

I’m kind of liking this set up. I could easily remove the “recovery board” when I’m not wheeling or need the bed space. Only concern is how to secure it in place. I’m sure it’s be heavy enough for general conditions. But I’d hate to wreck and have it fly. I’ve committed not to poke holes in my bed liner for mounting stuff. What to do????

 

1.5" square tubing notched to fit the tools handles, SS bolts with brass washers and wingnuts, backing plate can be an existing surface or built to suit

1 year 8 months exposure hasn't been kind to my tools looking at the build pics.

 

I have the 3rd Gen and it doesn't have the T-track rail on the back of the bed. Did they forget to add that or does the 3rd Gen not come with it? I noticed the 2nd Gen does.

 

I hope its much less. 3rd Gen they want over $200. Is there another option besides the dealer. I didn't really find a match on Amazon.

Thank you op For the idea and the drawings. Good work. It worked out awesome I had to do some minor changes because of the short bed. And I didn’t need as many bolts. Because I have a welder.

 

Been planning to get a mount for an ax and shovel, but haven't seen any good installs with LOCKABLE mounts really. I know they exist, just wondering how good they are. I plan to try to mount mine INSIDE my bed rack, like on the underside.

 

Definitely gonna build me some of these next week. Pics to follow.

 

I got aluminum 1.5" x 1/8" bar. Way easier to cut, drill and bend. Will post some pics when done, waiting on the t-slot nuts to ship.

I completely misinterpreted your post, until I saw your picture; I thought you meant you only had 6 inches of flat-bar to work with, and I was thinking "Well, that will get you ALMOST one mount"


I'm sure you could get creative and make some shorter mounts to hold some stuff horizontally, like a fire extinguisher, flashlight, possibly an axe or hatchet. Not so sure about a Hi-Lift or shovel, though.

 

Doesn't hurt to try... Might just have to move some holes around.

Well ya know, I like throwing them out there, maybe I can make the holes slotted vertically for adjustability

 

Got mine done. Had to make a few adjustments for my jack but nothing major.

 

For the high lift mounts? Would it work to mount the hilift directly to the t nut? Or would it be too much weight on the bed rails?

 

Needs to be spaced out for clearance from the side of the bed. It seems like it would be to much torque if it was mounted directly on the bolt from the t-nut.
