Glad this thread got bumped I did the bracket removal mod ( tore off on a rock ) ... when I did it broke the plastic housing around the 7 pin. Makes it so the trailer plug doesnt get retained by the fold open door. Nothing some zip ties cant do but would prefer the normal connex. Was quoted 150 or so for the harness at dealer. Found an upgrade 7 pin/ 5 flat / 4 flat combo on Amazon for 20some thing $ > will be nice to be able to haul rv style trailers and smaller ute trailers without having to dig around for the 7 to 4 adapter. ( how many of those have you bought over the years, im at a half doz ez)

The adapter takes traditional 7 wire input and bridges the connexion internally to function as flat 4 or 5 connexion as well....
Going to rewire and mount either thru bumper but not sacrificing a plate light, or under mounted near hitch location in either vert or horizontal loc. Hope to have pics soon, new multi pin connector in mail.

Edit saw below tw member has killa relo brackets

P.s. I did drive for a decade with one functioning plate light, no issues, but that was on my 07 , couldn't find the source of failure, just forgot abut it... my new 15 they work and don't wanna push my decade of luck by sacrificing one for trailer wire connex.

P.s. did anyone open link that shows thru plate lite mount on toyotanation. Ouch their interface is HURTING lol suckaz

Edit this relo bracket looks killa:

Do you recall how the wiring harness came apart under the truck to get the wire through the new hole in the bumper? I am thinking about this mod. I like it.

I was going to get the relocation mod however I snapped mine off already so I ordered a Hopkins 4way and 7way plug to wire in. I'm going to try to make a swinging one that swings down when I need to use it. I've already destroyed two oem ones and the dealership cost is insane for them.

Holy thread revival! Just did the thru-the-light mod and am wondering what you fine people did with the now “extra” light that has no home?

Did this work as a "Plug and play" or did you have to strip the wires off the old one and wire into the hopkins model? I too did the trail mod rock smack
