DIY Remote Start in 2015 Advice

I am wanting to self install a 2-way remote starter in my 2015 Tacoma. I initially went to Cartoys, but they seemed a bit too shady and wanted too much money, imo, for the install. Then after watching a few videos on youtube, I convinced myself that this should be simple enough to do on my own. Any advice on where to go next to find the right device for my vehicle to include install instructions? Anyone else done this, that can walk me thought it?

It took an afternoon and really was plug and play. It's been awesome for the ~year I've had it. No complaints.

The 12volt solutions version is slightly cheaper, but I preferred the look and function of the fob on this one, so I was willing to pay a little extra for it. I'd still make that choice; the fit and finish is nicer than the factory Toyota fob, even.

 

Did you look at any other units? Why did you choose this one? I was looking at this compustar one on Amazon.

Yes, I looked at several.

I didn’t want to cut/splice the connections, I wanted plug and play in case: 1) I didn’t like it or sold the truck, 2) no chance of me cutting the wrong wire/faulty crimp connection, 3) truck doesn’t burn down/require expensive repairs if I messed it up.

 

Did you go with the smartphone add on? and did this replaced your current fob? Quality of the fob was good?

 

No, did not do the phone app.

Yes, replaced my original fob, and per my first reply, I like the quality of the fob.

 

The included directions were easy to follow? I think I have the same concerns as you did as far as not wanting to mess up your truck during the install.
