Hey any of yall got some insight on how to mount a couple D-ring on the roof where the roof rack moulding is?

I don't want a full on roof rack, but I need D-rings up there sometimes.

If anyone has seen a thread on here with pics of something like this, throw me a link so I can check it out.

I will post pictures up once I get the things rigged up.

Interesting idea. Maybe you could utilize the mounting holes for the roof rack? :notsure:

Yeah, I was looking at that. If anyone knows the sizes on those holes, I might be able to make that work.

    I found this: http://www.toyotapart.com/2005-2010_TACOMA_ROOF_RACK_PT278-35050_REV._A_--PT278-35050.pdf

But it just says "short torx screws".

I am also shopping hardware stores for D-rings that would fit well.

Alright, I got a temporary solution, maybe permanent. I will see how it holds up and turns out.

First, I peeled back the liner, and found this:

They are made of plastic... VERY flimsy. So, I started looking for alternatives.

I came up with this for now:

First, straps attached around the suicide door latch (more permanent studs later if this works out):

    Doesn't even touch the door:

I found this foam car top cushion, ran some bungee through it and attached:

    EDIT:

By the way, not expecting this to hold anything down to the roof. Just provide cushion for the yak getting strapped down on top of it.

So there are no holes to mount to up there? Sorry I've never had that strip off. Points for being creative!

None, unless the plastic clip is mounted in a hole. I was too skeerd to pull on it and find out.

This setup was damn near free, so if it works out that is a plus.

I will get to test it with a load on it this weekend.

there are 2 bolt holes under the weather strips, you just have to poke holes in the weather proof tape (you have to do it to mount the oem roof rack)

but what you did looks like a good alternative

I'm thinking about using a rivet gun or something on the strap to hold it in place permanently.

Any ideas on how to mount that strap better than just tying it?

    EDIT:

Going to try and use nut/bolt/washer combo if I can get to the backside of that panel.
