I had these Yakima bars on my 2010 Liberty and did not see a good solution out there to make them work on a TACOMA. So, I figured out a way to make it work myself using the factory threaded inserts and a little Home Depot Help. I could not have figured this out with this site. I had no idea there was even a place to put bolts under the rubber strips on the roof. And the thread size for the bolts.

I was pleased how it turned out. Rack is on there real solid. Can rock the truck back and forth. Hope it helps someone out! I should produce some for sale. No one makes anything like this.

That is awesome. I'm surprised there isn't an aftermarket solution to be able to mount Yakima or Thule bars directly to these holes. It's either go full bolt on roof rack, OEM rack, or drill holes for landing pads.

If I were to build again, I might use solid aluminum. I saw no need to buy a plastic factory rack. Factory racks are usually not the strongest mounting pts in the world. This was pretty time consuming cutting the 1 inch square stock with a saber saw, but I think it was worth it. Took more time to figure out what to do.

What is the distance between the screws in the roof? Yakima landing pads might fit. That's what I use on my topper

+1 on the landing pads. Even if you have to attach them to your brackets, that would be a stronger attachment than the rail grabbers. Of course, this is coming from a guy that did this. Down the road, I'd like to attach tracks to the bed rails and put the landing pads back on.

From what I found, there is no Yakima landing pad that has the same spacing as the roof holes.
That's why I used landing 11, which only uses one screw. Its big but get the job done.
