Hey everyone, can we let this be my "Howdy I'm new here" post? Anyway, I'm a Tacoma lifer (08',01' and now another 01') and I just got a line on very clean doors from a 98'. I have rusty 2001 and from my research they'll fit but I just want to make sure before I close the deal. I'll get around to starting some kind of build thread as this thing is going to need some R&R and some mods to personalize it. By the way I searched the forum and the internet before posting this but I want to get the AND be sure before they're gone. Thanks!

That's true, I thought I read somewhere that extended cab and regular cabs have different doors. I have an 01' extended cab and these doors are from a regular cab.

From Toyota dealer parts site. Front doors are all the same. Part number doesn't change from double cab, extended cab or std cad.
    This Part Also Fits:

    On a related note...

Can '01 to '04 inner door panels be swapped with '95 to '97 door panels? I'm asking because I have a '96 that needs new arm rests, but they're no longer available from Toyota.

I haven't swapped the door panels yet, but when lining them up with the '95-'00 style it has the exact same shape. I believe I asked the same question over on customtacos and they said it would fit up just fine.

Here's what Enola Gaia had to say about it on customtacos.com:

"I believe the 2004 interior trim panels will fit up (in general) on the 1998 door structure. However ...

I don't know whether the clips / screws / whatever attaching them are exactly the same (number and locations) between 1998 and 2004 versions."

If you wait a week or two, I'll give you an answer. I'm going to install my power door retrofit soon. I'm waiting for my new window regulator and passenger armrest to come in. By the way, if you need a new armrest or discontinued part you can always call a Toyota recycler or look on Craigslist for someone parting out their Tacoma. I found some '01-'04 door panels on Craigslist for $150 (a bit steep since the Rancho Toyota Recycler charges $50 per door panel). I'd totally go test out the fitment but the crank window handles are a BITCH to take off. It takes like 5 minutes of see-sawing a piece of fabric in between the 'C' clip and the handle to take it off.

I paid $35 for a used armrest. It's a lot of money, but it's very hard to come by. Not many people had a gray interior and those who did usually sold the whole door panel as one piece. There was this truck scrapper near by that just so happened to have it, but their prices are crazy high.

That make a fairly inexpensive tool for that clip.

There is definitely a lot of talk on swapping panels and I've installed them on a direct swap without issue. As @mechanicjon stated circlip pliers are very inexpensive and make removing a window crank an easy job @BartMaster1234. @Dek Ngo i have some armrests in a blue color from a 98' in fact I have the entire panel if you're interested. @BartMaster1234 I also have a full set of electric panels from an 01' if you need anything. I'll keep this thread going as I install the salvaged doors and go from electric to manual on this truck.

Do you have all the wiring figured out? @mechanicjon actually helped me in adapting a harness to implement the complete door harnesses to function in the absence of the integration module. Check out my build thread

EDIT: Oh wait lol you're doing the exact opposite. I don't see many people going in reverse, why are you swapping out your electric assembly?

@BartMaster1234 im going electric to manual just for simplicity. This is a 16 year old truck from the northeast and for the most part it's not in great condition (but it's got a replacement frame!) I would rather not deal with annoying window issues in the future and since I'm doing the doors I'll just simplify while I'm at it. I guess I'm also a bit of a Luddite...

I put 01-04 panels in my 99. The speaker size is different, but I had 6.5" speakers anyway so I just trimmed out the insides of the the plastic panel. The driver window switches are also different, notice the lock switch compared to a 95-00.

Do you have any tweeters hooked up? I have them in my new door panels but they're absent on my '98.

Yes I had CDT components with tweeters from before the swap in 4runner sail panels. I sold the panels and moved the tweeters to the stock location. I just used some hot glue to hold them in place after bending the stock metal bracket to kind of cradle them.
