Here is my door jam sticker. The only thing I can find on this says that the 4 in the code means I have 4.56 gears. Can anyone help me out? I just got 33’s and have been thinking about regearing especially since i will be adding Maybe a front bumper and winch in the future and I already have a tool box. Mostly highway driving with driving on logging roads and trails pretty much every weekend. Anyone have any recommendations for a gear ratio that would work well for my setup? Everything I’m reading points to 4.88.

I too have been debating 4.88s. It’s all about specific usage and when you have varied usage it gets “more interesting”. Lots of opinions and I did see a few performance charts that can help. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet as Magnuson has a supercharger in the works and may have their own specs.

Whatever the case, you don't have 4.56.

If you have 33's you're going to have two very good options, 4.88s or 5.29s. The difference between the two is not a huge leap, but they do perform differently. Many say that 33s or higher should go with 5.29 because your 5th and 6th overdrive gears kick in more and keep your mpg at a manageable level.

There are three threads you should read through completely:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/5-29-but-maybe-i-should-just-do-4-88.643302/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-5-29-mega-thread.557305/

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-4-88-mega-thread.511967/

The mega threads are very long. Yes, read through all of it. Do it in small chunks. Yes, some of the info is redundant, but what you're going to see is some recurring themes about how each set of gears caters a little differently to a driver's daily habits.

If you're going to spend 2-3k on new gears it's worth putting in the time to understand how your truck will run.
