Do I need a 4x4 to join overland?

Im figuring some good tires, a winch some shovels and traction boards and I'll be fine?

 

It's all about where you go and how well you can drive. Tougher trails, probably not. Certain routes that don't have aggressive sections where 4x4/lockers may be needed, you'll be good with what you've got.

 

Is it a special club you are trying to join?

I would say, no. You can overland 2wd trucks.

 

Im not necessarily trying to join a club, but I think it would be alot of fun.

I will! I go fishing and am getting into hunting, and Ive gotten myself stuck in knee deep mud and got myself out with a shovel and locking my diff. I need to get better at driving in those situations.
