^This. Use something far softer than the aluminum to scrape it off. An old library card, or something similar, has always worked well for me. Then use some denatured alcohol and a cloth to get it spotless.

Tensioner pulley is an easy re-install. Once the belt is off there is no "tension" in it. You've already got a torque wrench, so if it makes it easier for you to re-install the water pump, I would take it out. Lining everything up on the water pump, and then spending a few extra minutes getting the tensioner back in is far better than having to tear it all down to get the water pump back in the right way.

Also, a little trick. Put a few sheets of cardboard against back of your radiator and your work area and tape them/zip tie them in place. It protects it from the handle of your wrench. Take the cardboard out after.

    Thanks for the info
I have the water pump out now, i left the tensioner on..it seemed like i was taking off too much stuff, i just moved the tensioner back to access the bolt behind it..hopefully it works out.
I went to a few auto stores to get a new O-ring, no one had any but i ended up with one for 59c it looked too big and yes i took the original with me..however i got it and no it is not gonna work. So ... could i use the old O-ring? it "looks" ok, i just need this truck back on the road.

I know, i keep telling myself that too. My neighbors sure have heard a range of profanity recently! I should have just stuck with referencing the water pump thread on here, much simpler.

If you bought an oem pump it should come with the o- rings and the metal gasket for the pump.

Good Pics OP!! I am having mine replaced as well at a garage. I am curious if it it was my gasket, or the actual water pump, ~59,000 miles.

    Get this sorted out OP?

I forgot to give my last piece of advice on that kind of work: take lots of pictures of how it was set up BEFORE you take things off. Helps later.

And yes: OEM gaskets, o-rings, etc, are always the best parts to use when replacing OEM equipment.

Yes I got it done, that Haynes manual had me taking everything off. When it said to remove the ac compressor I drew the line! I'm no mechanic at all but it seemed too much. And I just moved the tensioner over and undid the bolt behind it...seemed a lot quicker. I need to invest in some decent tools..would have made things go smoother and some kind of long pipe to help move the tensioner over, alas it's done now and I have saved around $400 doing it myself. Thanks y'all

Haynes manuals should be used as a reference only. I've found quite a few things wrong over the years with different vehicle's i've owned.

Mechanic showed me the seals went bad. I provided all of the parts. So for $350, he changed water pump, new thermostat, removed radiator and flushed upside down, washed radiator fins, cleaned AC compressor and other pulleys (said they were dirty), rotated my tires. He then called to tell me to order new idler pulleys and a new tensioner. He wanted to barter for my tie down cleats. I should have said yes, then bought some on Ebay for 40 bucks.
