OK, this might be a stupid question but here it goes anyway...

My wife bought me a scooped hood for Christmas and I am making arrangements to get it painted. I currently have the chrome grill surround and want to have a colormatched grille surround to go with my new hood.

My question is....Can the chrome one be painted or is it better to purchase a non-chrome one and have it painted?

The hood and surround will be professionally painted.... just wasn't sure if it would be easier just buying an all grey one I found for $60, then having them have to deal/prep with painting the chrome one.

    Thanks in advance

you can buy a color matched grill oem for under $200. That is what I would have done if they had Toyota made a color matched for Impulse Red, but alas they didn't so...I bought a base grill & got it paint @ the dealers for a $100. Maybe since you are getting both done, it would be cheaper for you though.

Since they are already painting the hood it would be just as easy to hit the grille at the same time. No need to go out and buy another grille.

Since the chrome on the grill is the "spray-on" chrome you can sand most of it off, so it should be easy for a professional shop to take care of it.

Where did u get the hood? And lemme know how it turns out im just north of you in huntsville and might get my chrome grill painted as well...

That would be ideal. I'm just not sure of how hard/time consuming prepping the chrome one is for it to be painted. See below for my concern!!!

My buddy owns a body/paint and my wife ordered it through him for my Christmas present. He is no doubt going to give me a "great" price on painting the hood and grill. I just want to make it easier on him. If the chrome one is a hassle, I'll just buy the base grey one for $60 and sell the chrome one for whatever.

BTW BlueToothTony...I grew up in Conroe and graduated SHSU in '94!!! Many good times in Huntsville!!!

if you decide to order a new grill surround link below is a good place... You can also think about selling your chrome one here or on eBay for around $100.

So your new matching grille surround would end up costing $75 - $100 with the shipping costs.

Color matched GRILLE SURROUND OEM $171.94
