I didn't, just torqued to spec and hasn't leaked a drop in months. So no.

some of this helps keep it in place when you're putting it back on. that damn gaskets always come creased and fucked up from being packed in the box. this helps line it up and keep its shape on the pan

What I did was to install a Purolater P1320 inline transmission filter on the transmission cooler return line when I changed the fluid the first time.
I changed the fluid at about 90k miles, and it was dark. Almost black. Still very dark red after drain and partial refill.
After 30k miles(recommended filter change interval) the fluid was almost red again. Working on my second inline filter. In another 10k miles I’ll do another drain and refill, and change the filter again.
Much easier to change the inline filter.

Called my Toyota dealer today about a tranny service and this is what he said.

What we have is a product made by BG products. It is a full synthetic transmission fluid flush. We add a cleaner, drive the truck and then run the flush machine and flush out the old fluid and add the new fluid and also a conditioning fluid. We charge $200 for that service, it takes around an hour to do.

    BG service anyone?

    No way!!
A proper transmission service is to drop the pan change or clean the screen , clean the pan and magnets then fill up with transmission fluid.

I replaced the Transmission filter over the weekend on my 2015 Prerunner 2w drive. I measured all the fluid I drained and drained from the filter when I took it out. Old fluid was 3 1/2 quarts. When I put the new fluid back I was very carefull bringing it up to temp. I have a Scanguage II that displays Transmission temp. It took 4 quarts of new fluid. So I have been running 1/2 quart low since I bought it new. Now transmission shifts smoother than it every has. Always could really notice the shift points, now shifts very smooth, better than ever. Also sometimes it would slip a little between 1st and 2nd, doesn't now. I have read about this. Some Taco's are low on fluid new. My son bought a 2018 Tacoma Prerunner 4w drive. Within a few 100 miles he installed a Scanguage II to measure transmission temp and we checked trans fluid by putting 1/2 quart in then draining it. We drained 1/2 quart out on level check so his transmission fluid level was ok. I wish I had checked my fluid level sooner, hope there was no damage to transmission.

I have a 2006 Tacoma Prerunner DBLB with 166,070 miles. According to Carfax and the dealer that the previous owner had the maintenance done, the Transmission Flush/Fill was done.

When it’s time to Flush/Fill should I also change the transmission filter and transmission pan gasket?

Thanks been learning a lot here

I would recommend changing the filter when you do a full flush. If you're changing the fluid anyways, it's not that much more work to drop the pan to replace the filter (and the gasket).

And when I say flush, I mean this: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-full-flush-for-automatic-transmission.68462/

Awesome! That’s the link I have saved for the complete fluid flush and fill.

Thanks again for your recommendation on the Transmission filter & gasket. I’ll now be doing that as well!

Forgot to ask since this is the first time I’ll be doing the Transmission Flush. Do you recommend the Genuine Toyota ATF (WS) or another brand.

    Thanks again

If you do the flush correctly, No.
    Use MaxLife

    Correctly is important.
    Here is correctly
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-full-flush-for-automatic-transmission.68462/

Here is why I suggest going with a fluid other than WS.

    Hi,

my 2nd gen 2015 2.7 double cab 4x2 auto has 247,000 miles as of this writing in December 2023.

i drain transmission oil every 30,000 miles (because oil is cheap n transmission is not) ; it has original transmission and original transmission oil filter.

i only use Toyota OE transmission oil.

the transmission runs like brand new....!

check out few videos of my tacoma maintenance.
Savitara General & Roofing Contractors - YouTube

if i do change the transmission oil filter - i would only go with Toyota OE !

TacomaWorld has help me a lot keeping my tacoma healthy!
